Mad Apron And Mad Hatter Parties Coming Up

By ANN BLUMENTHAL CA 1-1377 There seems to be a new trend coming up. The spirit of giving in November and not waiting until Santa Claus shows up, is taking place in the form of mad apron and mad hatter parties and parties to raise toys for disturbed children. Our community helps not once a year, but all year. A thank you to all the clubs in the area. Anne Frank Chapter of B'nai B'rith is having a mad apron luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the Sorrento Restaurant at 12:30 p.m. Donation is $2.25. For reservations call fund raising vice president, Mrs. Pearl Herbert, HI 3-6465. Guest speaker will be Rabbi Malovsky from Temple Israel. Temple Zamora Sisterhood is having a luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Riviera Restaurant. Donation is $1.50. Chairman is Mrs. Irving Klein, 2929 SW 15 St. Call HI 8-8136 for reservations. Gil Balkin Chapter of B'nai B'rith had a card party on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 8:30 p.m. at the Park Lane Cafeteria. Chairman was ways and means vice president, Lois Goldstein. Mrs. Carol Ostro is having a games night and social at her home, 5050 SW 83 Ct., on Wednesday, Nov. 30. The purpose is to have fun and meet your neighbors. Refreshments will be served. A special film dealing with Communism in the United States, a speaker from the Jewish Family and Children's Service to talk on foster home care programs for the aged, and the celebration of birthdays and anniversaries of members will highlight the month's program for the Senior Citizens Friendship Club of the Southwest YMHA, 7215 Coral Way. The club, for men and women 55 years of age and over, meets regularly on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Southwest YMHA. All interested senior citizens are invited to join this active and growing group and to participate in their weekly activities. Bus transportation is available. Coral Way Young Adults will hold a Thanksgiving Dance on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 8 p.m. at the Coral Way Jewish Center, 8755 SW 16 St. All men from 18 to 30 and women from 18 to 26 are invited. Refreshments will be served. South Miami Heights Association had its monthly meeting on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m. at the Cutler Ridge Hall. The program was a film on "Operation Abolition." It concerned the Communist plan for abolishing the committee on un-American activities. Sunrise AMC is having a kick-off buffet luncheon and card party on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 11:30 a.m. at the Roney Plaza Hotel in the Imperial Room. Donation is $4 a person. Southwest ORT is having an ORT Sabbath on Friday, Nov. 18, at 8:30 p.m., at the Coral Way Jewish Center. The ORT members will be hostesses during the Oneg Shabbat. Guest speaker will be Mrs. Edward Frank. Rabbi April will officiate. St. Brendan's 1960 annual carnival will be held on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18 and 19, from 7 to 11 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 20, from 1 to 7 p.m., 87 Ave. and SW 32 St. Caribbean Jewish Center Sisterhood is having a bake sale on Wednesday, Nov. 23, to be held at Cutler Ridge Shopping Center. The time is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Chairman is Mrs. Judy Berger. A regular meeting will be held the same evening at 8:30 at the Community Hall Shopping Center. A toy demonstration—educational and fun-to-play-with—will be presented. Chairmen are Mrs. Yvette Green and Mrs. Nettie Petzolt. A square dance will be held by the Carribean Jewish Center and the Sholom Chapter of B'nair B'rith on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 9 p.m., at the Community Regional Shopping Center in Cutler Ridge. A professional caller will be on hand. Donation is 75 cents. The public is invited. An ORT Sabbath will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, at 8:30 p.m. at Temple Beth Am, 5950 N. Kendall Dr. At this time, South Miami ORT will be honored in the community. Mrs. Sidney Leibowitz, education chairman, is in charge. Mrs. Norman Ashlies, educational co-chairman will speak from the pulpit. Oneg Shabbat will follow at the Temple after the services. A board meeting of the South Miami Chapter Women's American ORT will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Irving Simson, 12440 SW 72 Ave. Mrs. Leonard Waldman, president, will conduct the meeting. Coral Way Jewish Center Sisterhood is having a theatre party on Wednesday, Jan. 18, for the film, "Exodus." Tickets are now on sale. For reservations, call CA 1-9131. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Fistel, 8540 SW 42 Ter., on the birth of a baby boy. Mrs. Fred Sandler, the grandma, is still on her tour in Israel and has not heard about the new grandson yet. Mr. and Mrs. Al Kerchner and children, 9310 SW 43 Ct., have just returned from a visit up north. Get well wishes to the father of Mrs. Milton Schrier, 3885 NW 2 Ter., who has just undergone surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. Schwartz, 6007 SW 15 St. . . . congratulations on your 25th anniversary. A surprise birthday party for Mr. Sol Schwartz, 8710 SW 21 Ter., was given by his wife, son and daughter. Guests were close friends and relatives. We are glad to see Sylvia Seiavitch, 2200 SW 82 Ct., home again after being very ill. Best wishes and luck to Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Furshman, 8320 SW 32 St., on the birth of a baby girl, Stacy. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bender, 8210 SW 25 St., are happy to have Bob's mother, Mrs. K. Bender, visiting from New York. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Winick, 7915 SW 23 St., have visitors from New York. Bea's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fleischman, like Florida so much they are going to make it their permanent home.
