Report Asked On Coral Gables Advertising

Members of Coral Gables fiveman Supervising Committee for publicity and advertising have been asked for their individual recommendations on how the city's Advertising and Publicity Department should be handled. The City Commission Tuesday decided to ask the committee members for their report after reviewing briefly the operation under Director Bert Burris. Chairman of that committee is Robert Hildreth. Other members are Fred B. Harnett, Hamilton Hayes, Vernon C. Hill and Albert Jacobson. Burris submitted a report to the Commission Tuesday on the department. The director said Tuesday that the advertising and publicity function may be operated successfully under either the City or the Chamber of Commerce, but that he leans toward direction of the city. The present set up is a sort of hybrid, with the city paying the bills and Burris operating under a committee made up of appointees from the City and Chamber and one appointed by the committee itself. Facilities for Burris are provided by the Chamber of Commerce, but the city owns the facility itself. The department is budgeted at $65,000 a year.
