South Miami Federal Plans New Building
South Miami Federal Savings and Loan Association, five years old and growing fast, is planning new offices on the northeast corner of SW 61st Ave. and Sunset Dr. A building four or five stories high will be built this year, with the financial institution's offices on the first floor. The upper floors will be leased out, according to A. Vance Morgan, South Miami Federal's executive vice president. Striving For Height "We're striving for height," Morgan said, "so the building can be seen from either side of the tracks." Architect is South Miamian Harry E. Penney. Morgan said lease commitments have already been arranged for most of the upper story offices. In addition, there will be an employees' cafeteria and a community meeting room on the upper floors. "South Miami Federal is proud of the progress of South Miami and South Dade County," Morgan said. "This building will reflect our faith in the future of the area." South Miami Federal will have a frontage of 236 feet on Sunset Dr. and extend 322 feet north to SW 71st St. Parking will be in the rear of the building. Work In June Plans call for bids on the structure in April or May with construction to begin in June. "We hope to be in the building by the end of the year," Morgan said. South Miami Federal opened Feb. 4, 1956. At the end of 1956 its assets totaled $2,459,895. Assets at the end of 1960 were $11,196,222.

MEET THE SWISS
"In Switzerland, tourists can actually meet the people—not just sales girls and tour guides—but families on farms and in the cities," Bill Mason of Travel, Inc. said. "The Swiss, with their characteristic penchant for cordiality, believe that visiting a strange land is more than sightseeing and shopping. They contend that tourists should not only see Switzerland, but feel it. "A few years ago, the Swiss adopted a "meet the people" program designed specially to allow guests of the country to mingle intimately with the native folk. Since the project was a huge success, it has been expanded to accommodate even more of the growing number of visitors to Switzerland annually. Travelers have a wide choice of meeting people in urban, sub-urban or rural communities. Also, there is an equally large selection of tours available which would permit curious tourists to inspect anything from a cheese factory to a vineyard."
