Palmetto Band Takes Honors In Competition
Palmetto High School Band walked away with a score of honors the first time it participated in a statewide contest. Results of the May 11-33 state contest at the McAllister Hotel and released last week gave the Panther Band a superior rating in sight reading and excellent in concert. The band is directed by David Brayton, music director for the school. Other honors went to individuals and ensembles. Superior ratings went to Patricia Kellogg, oboe; Sal Buno, trombone, Paul Gash, horn; Vincent Corso and Mike Johannson, drum beat. Buno, Harmon Norton, Vincent Lipscomb and Richard Davenport, all received superior ratings for their trombone quartet performance. The four Palmetto majorette soloists and two of the majorette corps also rated superior with judges. Excellent ratings went to Cal Kellogg, piano; David Casey, baritone and Richard Brock, flute. Also rated excellent was the woodwind quintet made up of Gash, Cal Kellogg, Pat Kellogg, Brock and Cathy Greenawalt. The last group to be rated excellent was the trumpet quartet made composed of James Cowart, Atwood Brookings, Robert Hickey and Jack Wells.
Bayshore Woman's Club Re-Elects Mrs. F. Davis
Mrs. Floyd Davis, 3850 SW 4th St., was installed president of the Bayshore Woman's Club for a second term Tuesday at luncheon ceremonies at the Flame Restaurant. The Bayshore Club members have two projects: supply needs for the pediatric ward playroom at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and blood bank maintenance for indigent senior citizens. Mrs. William O. Mehrtens, president, Dade County Federation of Women's Clubs officiated at the installation. Others seated were Mrs. Fred C. Davant, first vice president; Mrs. William Martin, second vice president; Mrs. Albert Jones, corresponding secretary; Mrs. William Dixon, treasurer and Mrs. Marshall Johnson, director.

Mrs. Moser Heads PTA At Palmetto
Members of the Palmetto Elementary School PTA have elected officers. They are Mrs. J. Moser, president; Mrs. Durand Holiday, first vice president; Mrs. L. H. Cottrell, second vice president. Mrs. Kenneth Calender, recording secretary; Mrs. David Walters, corresponding secretary; and Mrs. Charles Papy, treasurer. In the reviewing of the year's PTA work at the school, the sum of $2,000, was left by the PTA to be put into the Palmetto Elementary School playground shelter fund; nine calliphones, record players, were purchased; five large fans were purchased for classrooms, the cafetorium and library; an amount of $200 was presented to the school library; and the PTA was able to send three teachers to the FEA convention held in Jacksonville in April.
