Remember The Times
25 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK Coral Gables Junior Chamber of Commerce voted to take an active part to bring about the establishment of a state police force in Florida by prevailing upon Gov. Fred P. Cone and the legislature. They suggested that money to pay the officers and maintain the force be derived from fees for state driver's licenses. 10 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK Thomas Blout, tax assessor, predicted the net tax roll at 75 million dollars. The figure represented an increase of $10,000,000 over the 1951 roll. New construction based on residential, apartments and duplexes accounted for the increase. Retiring Kiwanis president Harry Shay presented a gift gavel to Byron Sperow, incoming president, at its annual banquet held at the Coral Gables Country Club. 1 YEAR AGO THIS WEEK Twelve thousand women participated in the Mother's March of Dimes in Dade County, Mrs. Herbert A. Kuvin was chairman. Top Coral Gables High School students Sandra Burt, John Curtis, Leslie Gross, Maxine Master, Randy Feigenbaum, Eloise Milson and Bill Zame, qualified to take the Pre-Scholastic Aptitude test which enabled them to compete for scholarships from the National Honor Society.

Ace Van Lines... Equipped To Serve You!
Whenever you are moving, either across town or across the country, your first concern is to find the safest, most dependable mover available. For over 14 years, Ace RB Van Lines, Inc., has been satisfying thousands of families. Ace RB Van Lines has always sought to "make that move an easy one," Paul D. Berlin, president, declared. "In line with continued efforts to improve our service, we counsel with the housewife, explaining the steps to be taken in advance so that moving can be a pleasant experience — his service has earned us many commendations." "Very cooperative," "very good service," "fast and effi-cient," are expressions from satisfied customers. Established in 1947 Ace RB Van Lines, Inc., with their air conditioned offices, and fire proof warehouse, 2136 NW 24th Ave., established their main office here 14 years ago and has since assumed a place of leadership in the moving and storage fields. "In 1947 there was just one truck, a 16 foot furniture van used for local moving," Berlin said. "Five years ago we acquired our ICC license permitting us to operate long distance vans. Today nine modern furniture trucks handle all local movings and serve 23 Eastern and Midwestern States." Up To Date Equipment The modern, all aluminum 40 foot trailer makes frequent trips along the Eastern seaboard and Midwestern states. It is capable of carrying entire contents of a household or part loads for various individuals. Thirty-five foot vans, sufficient to carry entire contents of an average household, are used to carry local movings. Warehouse Facilities Fireproof storage facilities are also available for families moving to and from Miami. All household furnishings are kept here until the families have decided upon where they are moving. The storage rates are all at a minimum. This huge 40 foot all-aluminum van is an example of the up-to-date equipment employed by Ace RB Van Lines, Inc.
South Pacific For Everyone
"For the American tourist with just a few precious weeks carefully budgeted for that overseas holiday, the South Pacific until now has been beyond reach. But with the 1960's and the age of jet, the 'holiday frontier has been pushed right across the world's widest ocean," Bill Mason of Travel Inc., declared. "Thanks to this revolution in transportation by the, modern jet airliner, the two, three, and four week tourist can now comfortably reach New Zealand, Australia and the islands of the South Pacific, with precious holiday time still unused on arrival. A new travel criterion now exists — time in hours, rather than distance in miles. The Pacific West Coast is now only 16 hours from Tahiti, when only months ago it was a 35 hour flight via Fiji, Tahiti and Auckland, New Zealand were once 20 hours apart by air — and now they are 10 hours from each other. The mounting interest in the South Pacific is not the product of jet age time saving alone. Among the hundreds of islands and the thousands of islets, lies the "last frontier" — short of the jungle, the desert or the snowlands of the globe — for the tourist who seeks the world as nature made it. He will find that world among the enchanted islands of the South Pacific.
