University Baptist Plans Traditional Carol Service
The University Baptist Church traditional Candlelight Christmas Carol Service will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. Under the direction of Maestro Cecil L. Harner, minister of music, six choirs with 150 voices will lead. Following the Candlelight processional by all the choirs, the Cherub, the Celestial, the Carol and the Concord Choirs will sing a medley of seasonal and traditional carols. The Chapel and Chancel Choirs will then sing the moving Christmas Cantata by Roy Ringwald, "The Song of Christmas." Cantata Soloists Soloists for the Cantata will be soprano, Mrs. Martha Hayes, Mrs. Ruth Steele; contralto, Mrs. Mary Baiar; baritone, Dunbar Lewis; tenor, Ray Warren; narrator, J. William Cooper. Accompanying the choirs will be organist, Mrs. Emmett Steele; pianist, Mrs. Ray F. Basten and Mrs. V. W. St. John. Mr. John Baiar will preside over the timpani. Morning Service At the 8:30 and the 11 morning hours, the minister, Dr. T. Rupert Coleman, will preach on "When God Sent His Son." Christmas music will be sung by the Chapel and Chancel Choirs. On Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock, following the Family Night Dinner, the church will gather in the patio about the illuminated Christmas Tree to join in the International Christmas Carol Sing, under the leadership of Maestro Harper.
South Miami Methodist To Hear Combined Choirs
The annual Christmas program of South Miami Methodist Church, featuring the church's combined choirs singing Christmas Carols, will be held at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, services. Some of the selections by the Chancel Choir include, "Glory to God in the Highest," "Lately We Watched," "Christ was Born on Christmas Day," "Gloria in Excelsis" and "Hallelujah." The Soloists Soloists include Mrs. Delores Fink, a metro soprano and Paul Marino, a baritone. Mrs. Fink will sing "O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings To Zion," while Marino will sing "The Trumpet Shall Sound." Other soloists will be Mrs. Harriet Mertz, Mrs. Glenn Draper, Dr. Winter Griffith, Merril Easterlin and Frank Calhoun. The Children's Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Glenn Draper, will sing "Noel," "Sing We Now of Christmas," and "Away in the Manger." The Youth choir, under the direction of Mrs. Delores Fink, will sing "Christ Our Saviour is Born" and "Ding-dong, Merrily on High." The Minister Glenn Draper is the minister of the evening service and Dale Willoughby is the organist. At 7 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. James Lipscomb will show color slides entitled "An Alpine Christmas." These slides were taken by Mr. and Mrs. Lipscomb in Kitzbuhil, Switzerland, where the couple spent last Christmas. At 7:30 p.m. Fred Koch will present Dickens' "Christmas Carol."
Temple Invites School Teachers
Temple Beth Am will observe its annual Chanukah Candlelight Service on Friday, Dec. 16, at 8:15 p.m. The Public School teachers of the children of the Temple will be special guests. Participating in the service will be the Volunteer Temple Choir and a 100 voice children's choir. The Temple will present an unusual Chanukah Festival on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at which time the two choirs, directed by Mrs. Herbert M. Baumgard, will present Chanukah music, some of which has never before been heard in this part of the country, and much of which is original. Cantor Charles Kodner will be featured as soloist. On Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10:30 a.m., Paul Freeman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jules Freeman, will be Bar Mitzvah.
THE BAR MITZVAH SERVICES of Robert Alan Brandt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brandt, 6421 SW 22 St., will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at Temple Zion. Rabbi Alfred Waxman will officiate. Robert is a student at West Miami Junior High School and a member of the band. A reception will be held at the Miami Springs Country Club on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
Grove Church Will Present Ancient Story
The Plymouth Congregational Church will present "A Family Christmas Story," the first production to be given on its Fellowship Hall stage at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18. A cast of 36 persons and the Children's Junior Choir will bring to life the work created by Robert Gardner and the Rev. Daniel V. Horn. Earlier that Sunday, the Rev. David J. Davis, pastor, will deliver a sermon, "The Incarnation in Everyday Living," at the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. During the morning services, the Senior Choir will sing the spiritual, "Rise Up, Shepherd and Follow," and the Children's Choir will sing "Away In A Manger." Soprano Marilyn Pearce will sing "Jesu Bambino."
VFW Names Hursch
Ted C. Connell, Killeen, Tex., commander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, has announced that Solomon Hursch, 425 Perugia Ave., Coral Gables, has been appointed a National Deputy Chief of Staff of the VFW.

Presbyterian Vesper Service Set For Sunday
The Riviera Presbyterian Church, 5275 Sunset Dr., will hold its Christmas music vesper service Sunday, Dec. 18, at 5:15 p.m. Highlights of the program will be the Hand Bell Choir and the lighting of the Advent Candle of Love. The musical program will be presented by the Chancel Choir, assisted by the Youth Choir of 70 voices and the Junior Choir of 45 voices. They will be accompanied by Mrs. Marie Wright, harp; Paul Gogel, clarinet; and Marilyn Kaufman, flute. 120 Voices A pageant by the 120-voice children's Choir will be presented Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The Hand Bell Choir and the Youth Choir will sing at the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, 7:30 p.m. A special music program will be presented at the 8:30 a.m. Christmas Day service by the college girls sextette, the combined Chancel and Children's Choirs, a brass ensemble from the University of Miami, and cello soloist, Peter Spurbeck of the University of Indiana. Minister of Music Minister of Music is Mrs. Lucille Turner. The children's choirs are directed by Mrs. Phyllis Warren, assisted by Lou Kaufman.
Temple To Hear Chanukah Music
"The Jews in Bayville" will be the subject of the message by Rabbi Morris A. Skop, on Friday, Dec. 16, at 8:15 p.m., at Temple Judea. Cantor Herman K. Gottlieb, assisted by the Temple Choir, will present Sabbath melodies together with a special Hanukkah musical program in honor of the approaching holiday. The Candle Blessing will be invoked by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Krefetz and family in honor of the Bar Mitzvah of their son, Frederick. Mr. and Mrs. Krefetz will also be hosts at the Oneg Shabbat to follow the Service. * * * On Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10:30 a.m. during the Torah Service, Rabbi Skop and Cantor Gottlieb will officiate at the Bar Mitzvah of Frederick Krefetz. His parents will be hosts at the Kiddush-Canctification following the service.
Holiday Bazaar Offers Bargains
Looking for some good bargains? The place for you is the Holiday Bazaar. The Bazaar, sponsored by the Caribbean Jewish Congregation, is coming to Miami Dec. 19. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Cutler Ridge Regional Shopping Center on U. S. No. 1. Quality merchandise will be sold at "low," "low" prices. There will be something for everyone. Toys, records for the teenagers, clothing, and household items are all on the list of good buys. Proceeds from the bazaar will go into the building fund of the Caribbean Jewish Congregation.
Women's Association Plans Yule Observance
The Women's Association of the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables will commemorate Christmas at its meeting on Friday, Dec. 16, at 10:30 am in the chapel of the church, 121 Alhambra Plaza. The Kindergarten of the Sunday School will present the program, which has been arranged by Mrs. M. G. Taylor, 528 Mendoza Ave. The children will sing Christmas Carols. Mrs. Herbert Shartle will read scripture from Luke, the Christmas Story. Mrs. Lola Raymond will receive the offering with a closing prayer. Luncheon will be served by Circle 10, immediately following the meeting, in Fellowship Hall. Members of the Association and its friends are invited.

Church Sets Date Of Carol Service
The Candlelight Carol Service, which is an annual event at the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables, will be held on Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The church is located at 121 Alhambra Plaza. All the choirs of the church will combine to sing the carols of many lands. Soloists for the evening will be Mrs. Claudine Master and Stuart Wilson. Miss Junia Sells will accompany at the organ. The program has been arranged and directed by the minister of music, Mr. Wilfred Smith. Everyone is invited.
Choral Group Observes Yule
The choral group of the South Miami Music Club will present a Christmas program at 10:30 a.m. today at University Christian Church. Unusual and different Christmas numbers will be presented, with Mrs. John F. Matlack the accompanist. Portions of this program have been recorded in Stereophonic sound and will be broadcast later. Following the program, Mrs. Norman Miller and her committee will serve Yuletide refreshments.
Jewish Education Director To Speak
At Temple Zamora, Louis Schwartzman, director of the Bureau of Jewish Education, will be the guest speaker on Dec. 16, at 8:15 p.m. Members of the Junior Congregation will participate. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Milton Schrier will host the Oneg Sabbath on the occasion of the Bar Mitzvah of their son, David. The Bar Mitzvah will be Dec. 17, at 8:45 p.m. The sermon by Rabbi B. Leon Hurwitz will be "The Need of Dedicated Men." * * * On Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m., there will be a joint Chanukah program under the auspiceies of the Sisterhood, School Committee, faculty and students.

St. Mark's Plans Two Carol Services
On Sunday, Dec. 18, the Sunday School of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, will present at 7 p.m. the pageant, "The Adoration of the Kings and Shepherds" with music by the Matins and Senipr Choirs. On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, there will be two identical Candlelight Carol Services in the church at 7:30 and 11 p.m. Christmas Day, during the Sunday School hour which convenes at 9:45 a.m., all departments will meet in a group to view the filmstrip, "Bells at Christmas." The church services will be at the regular hours, 8:30 and 11 a.m.
