CORAL GABLES - COUNTRY CLUBBER

By GORDON TAYLOR The big blow and it's sister some days later blew our social plans sky high. The barbeque buffet had to be set up a week, the circus had to be postponed until Sunday, the 28th, and the telephone hasn't stopped ringing yet. However, the old club stands as regally and unperturbed as ever, gleaming from its washing down and proud that the winds could do it no damage. Having returned from my vacation, officially, last Monday, I was submerged with glowing plans for the circus. Mrs. Dolores Rohe and her-super-efficient committee have outdone themselves. The ribbons for the pet show arrived, the carpenter got started on the fish-pond, and, from all accounts, the delay is going to add rather than detract from the festivittites. Viewed Rehearsal I sat in on a rehearsal of "Outward Bound". Director Buchan is rapidly whipping this thrilling play into shape and you can bet, that our talented members are going to give you a performance that will linger in your memory for a long time. It's the type of play that gives pause for thought. The Tuckermans and their committee did a swell job on the 'Beach Party' last Wednesday. The daring and comfortable costumes knocked old man formality in the head and everyone seemed to have a good time. The members of these 'fun' committees are coming from all parts of our vast membership and I hope that you will find time to step up and do your stuff soon. Considering that Ike Macy blew in as pro of the tennis courts on the gusts of a hurricane gives you a small idea of what his zip and speed can do, you white-shorted athletes. Junior Dance Tonight is Junior Dance night. Just in case some of you new members didn't get an invitation, this party is for our ladies and gentlemen between the ages of 14 and 21. Few Club affairs have more dignity and ultra-decorum. Dick Kenny felt it wise to postpone his floor show until this coming Wednesday night. It will be a half-hour of fun and amusement by members for the members. In keeping with our postponed schedule, the hot dish in the buffet line will be fried oysters, if for no other reason that October ends in an R. Hope you enjoy it. Mrs. Gordon Writes Mrs. Fritz Gordon writes that life in the North is nice but not to be compared to life in the Country Club of Coral Gables. Said that when she saw Fritz he was tearing at the bit to tear lions to bits. On the other hand, Jeanette Tolleson prefers the wild life of New York's night clubs and shows—she says. The tennis and golf departments have been unable to operate because of the blows that have been patronizing our community. Every Wednesday and Saturday until the first of the year will be Blind Bogey Tournaments for men and women, winners being announced every Saturday. The next three dates are September 27th, October 1st and 4th. Change Bridge Plans The Bridge Group has announced that effective last night, September 25th, and for the duration of the Football Season, the Contract Group that has been meeting on Friday nights will be meeting on Thursdays nights instead. The winners for the Duplicate Group Thursday, September 18th were Mrs. Dwight Ozon and Mrs. Ollie Railsback. The winners for the Monday Duplicate Group were Mrs. Joseph Fitzpatrick and Mrs. John O'Day. Mrs. Frank Baker and Mr. Winton Beck were the winners of the Contract Group which met Friday, September 19th. The reservations are coming in to Charles steadily for the Fashion Show at noon Tomorrow. Daniels is featuring their line of the new Fall Fashions for the season beginning here in Miami. Don't forget to call Charles for your reservations. We are awaiting the Philharmonic Concert Cy has scheduled for this Tuesday, September 30th. The program has good selections which will please all who are planning to be present. The program will open with the Prelude to "Tristan and Isolde", Brahms' "2nd Rhapsody, Opus 79", and the September selection of the J. P. Riddle Foundation for Orchestral Composition "Etude for Orchestra". This first part will be broadcast over station WBAY and will be followed by selections played by soloist, Miss Charlotte Amidon. The program will terminate with selections from "A Connecticut Yankee" by Richard Rodgers. This is one of those old-timers of the musical play world, dating to 1927.
