Gables To Go Rustic For Junior Club's 'Hobo Hop'

Black Tie, Fancy Gowns Out, Overalls, Gingham de Rigueur For Dance Slated Nov. 25th What the well-dressed man will wear for dancing Nov. 25th will be the worst-looking clothes he can find. Coral Gables junior women, who sent the social whirl into a refreshing backspin with their novel "Come As You Are" party, will treat the ballroom to their own unique version of the "new look" on that evening. Starched shirts, black tie and sequined gowns will be taboo, and overalls, knapsacks and gingham de rigeur, when the younger married set turns Coral Gables into a one-night vagabond valhalla at their first annual "Hobo Hop." City slickers, country yokels and 'boes will rub elbows in the congenial setting of a wayside "barn" -the Woman's Club auditorium transformed with cornstalks, hay and pumpkins by Mrs. Thomas L. Campbell, general chairman, and her decorations chief-of-staff, Mrs. R. B. Fairchild. "Rube" Andy Somma will call the turns for square and folk dancing while his band of rustic ramblers sound the tunes, and plans for hawg calling and other hillbilly competitions are being whipped up by Mrs. Philip C. Barnhill, Mrs. Charles Wakeman Jr., Mrs. Curtis Haggard, Mrs. Walter Cunningham and Mrs. James Llewellyn. Refreshments will be the concern of Mrs. Jack Trout, who announces the coffee positively will NOT be cooked in a tin can over a brush fire. Tickets are being supervised by Mrs. Roger J. Barreto while Mrs. Alexander T. Gancarz and Mrs. W. M. Bain Jr. are handling reservations for the event. Proceeds from the dance will be earmarked for financing the Junior Woman's Club new dental unit, which assures dental care to the underprivileged. Mrs. James Sherrer left yesterday for her home in Charleston, S. C. For the past week she has been visiting in the home of the M. P. Markleys, 736 Avenue Majorca.
