Audience Doffs Spectator's Role To Turn Critic for Three Plays

Laughs and tears were shared together by the audience during the 18th experimental bill of original one-act plays presented Wednesday and Thursday nights in the partially completed Box theatre at the University of Miami. With the moral "Fruit don't drop to the ground 'iffin it ain't got rot worked in its heart," Arnold Campbell presented his "Conjure Song," a poetic drama of Alabama hillfolk. Arnold Davis not only wrote "Mystic Men and Love Sick Ladies," a hilarious farce about show people, but he also acted as Stuart Johnson, a naive amateur actor who finally at the end of the play, gets his break into show business. The third play presented, "The Ancient City" by Bill Quinn, was a drama concerning the heritage of the Minorcans who settled in St. Augustine in 1777. The author's handling of the tradition-al theme of the blind sailor returning home is to be commended. Following each of the three plays, which were written, directed and acted by the University students, the audience was given a chance to meet the author and criticize him as to what he did, or should have done to improve his play.

Dinner Key Boat Show Set for Feb. 14

Nearby Dinner Key will be the scene of the 1948 Greater Miami Boat Show on February 14-21 inclusive, the Riviera-Times was informed today. "While last year's first post-war revival of the show in the Miami Municipal Auditorium in Bayfront Park was a signal success and put the event on the national map as an outstanding marine boat exhibition, the space was restricted and none of the larger boats could be shown. The spectators found the parking problem irritating. At Dinner Key there will be free parking space for 2,000 cars," Grove Theis, director, said today. Both of the two former Navy hangars will be used. One will be devoted to boats and engines and one to accessories, the civic organizations devoted to boating and the second annual exhibition of paintings of marine subjects which was an attention-arresting feature of the 1947 show. The show is sponsored by a non-profit corporation under the auspices of the Miami Chamber of Commerce. F. Braden Dawson is president; Fletcher Proctor, vice president; Allen Matthews, secretary; J. Frank Knorr, treasurer. Other board members are John Huglen, J. N. Vernam and Thomas L. Phillips. "The availability of the Dinner Key site enables us to predict a bigger and better show for 1948," said Grover Theis, director of the show, "if we had had to hold it again at the auditorium we could merely have repeated the same show we had last year. Now we can come right out and say it will be a bigger and better show. We have more space, we can get the biggest boat in and above all, we can accomodate the crowd with free parking. The Rickenbacker Causeway is creating a new attraction south of the Miami River and Dinner Key is only two miles south of it on Bayshore Drive. Besides Dinner Key is accessible directly from 27th Avenue and by other traffic arteries than the congested downtown area, which will make it a special attraction for Coral Gables residents."

FAN MAIL Every Knock's a Boost -We Hope!

(Continued from Page One) grossly, but I do want to list the three outstanding evils of Coral Gables, to date as being: 1. The coaching staff of the University of Miami. 2. Station WBAY, who thinks they are now carrying a full football coverage when, as a matter of fact, their meager commercials won't permit them to get off the air long enough to join the stadium broadcast until after one or two plays have been completed. 3. The Coral Gables Riviera-Times, a small town newspaper, who uses such expressions as "Pet snake termed as Coral" and then in the body of the article they referred to the little snake as a moccasin, and the child is back at school the next day. I also understood that when your paper converted to a daily, that we would get daily delivery, but I get my paper two or three days later, by due course of mail and after I have read the news in the other daily papers. Let's take the lesser of the three evils, through the medium of your paper and try to correct the other two evils. Maybe your sub-conscious mind will then react to publishing a paper commensurate with the ideals and decency of Coral Gables. W. O. BOZEMAN

LIVESAYS PLAN BAGGAGE CAR HONEYMOON

(Continued from Page One) County Hospital, wearing their white uniforms, attended. The couple will leave tomorrow morning for Miami, where they will make their home after Mrs. Livesay is released from Jackson Memorial Hospital there. Livesay, who also has been married before, is head of a window frame construction company there. The bride is president of the Coral Gables Business and Professional Woman's Club.

Motorcycle Stolen

A $300 motorcycle was stolen from the University of Miami campus yesterday, the second of the two-wheeled vehicles to be taken in the last two days. Coral Gables police were told by the owner, F. Marsh, of the 20th Street Veterans Housing Project, that the cycle's chain had been left off. Just now the impossible is necessary.
