Glass and Mirror Firm Will Open Here Tomorrow

Coral Gables will gain its first establishment devoted exclusively to mirrors and glass work when Coral Gables Glass and Mirror opens tomorrow at 13 Avenue Almeria. Housed in its own new building the firm is operated by Owen R. Fabio and William Julius Filer, both native Floridians. Custom-made mirrors, made to customer specifications and silvered in the shop, will be featured by the new company. The firm will also be equipped to handle all kinds of glass work, including store front construction, plate glass, structural glass and glazing. Furniture tops and desk tops, cut to measure, will also be available. The 25 by 70 foot building will house a warehouse, shop and display room, where the different types of glass will be shown. Various uses of glass in decorating will also be on exhibit. Fabio was born in Miami, attended Miami High School and has been in the glass business since 1935 except for 31⁄2 years aboard a Coast Guard LST in the Pacific. He lives at 215 Avenue Calabria. Filer, born in Key West, came to Miami in 1916 and has been in the glass business for 20 years. Also a Miami High graduate, he lives with his wife and two sons at 3048 NW 27th Street. Both men plan to build new Gables residences in the near future. "We selected Coral Gables because we saw the need for this business here," he said. "Furthermore we like the type of clientele and we think the community has a great future in store for it."

'Nightmare' a 'Dream' Again As City Bans Duplexes

(Continued from Page One) of presenting duplexes when the commission deadlocked, Commissioners Frank N. Holley and Thomas C. Mayes siding with the residents while Andrew T. Healy and Dave Hendrick voted for the Gautier-Worley combination. Another brewing controversy was prevented when Roscoe Brunstetter, attorney for Alice Lanni, withdrew a request for a filling station to replace Mrs. Lanni's real estate office on Alhambra Circle. Members of the congregation of the Presbyterian Church and representatives of Carroll S. Daniels were present to protest, should the station be allowed. Parking Lot Criticized The commission decided to maintain the status quo of the single family zoning on Campo Santo until University of Miami officials state their plans for a paved parking lot across the street that property owners claim is ruining the sites for home building. Fraternity houses and duplexes have been suggested. The state of the parking lot was the target of criticism hurled by the property owners at the meeting. The commission also authorized the change of street numbers in the business district but set the effective date of the change from February 1 to August 1 to allow merchants to use up existing supplies of letterheads and advertising materials. The commission took no action on a request for a plumbing permit for a workshop on his property by Dr. Clyde Neill, upon the advice of City Attorney Edward G. Semple.

UN Delegate Visits Gables

(Continued from Page One) 1945 when the FAO constitution was adopted. That Quebec meeting came a few weeks after Roosevelt and Churchill met at the same spot. But the FAO gathering and the Roosevelt - Churchill conference were entirely separate, Dr. Tsou hastened to point out. "They were talking about war and we were talking about peace." In its present work, Dr. Tsou thinks, the FAO is "not agressive enough. It moves too slowly. Its chief work, so far at least, has been in the exchange of agricultural information between nations." Dr. Tsou learned agriculture at Cornell University and has worked in that field ever since.
