Country Club Spins Dream Whirl Of Fun, Fashions Cast of 100 Rehearses for Fiesta Dec. 16
One hundred Country Club of Coral Gables members on the Fashion Show Committee will translate a dream world into a dream whirl of food, fashions and fantasy for the other 1,400 members Tuesday evening, December 16th. Reservations were pouring in today and indications are that some 2,000 club-goers and their friends will enjoy the Fashion Fiesta that will start with dinner and tip-toe through a young girl's vision of the perfect Christmas week. Unlike the images that come to her bed—and in this, this one will be carefully stage-managed, and even the dreamer will be handpicked for the part. As Jackie Pierce lies all snug in her bed—and in WHAT snuggies—Jim Moore, masquerading in the whiskers of old St. Nick, will call forth the tableau of fashions that dance in her head. Dreams walking will be member models of both sexes, costumed in successive scenes for all occasions, from tennis court, to dance floor, to a cruise on the Bay—and even to Brazil for a rainy night in Rio. Sophisticated gowns and flannels from the Gables' foremost women's and men's apparel shops, cosmetcraft by Laird, jewels by Real, coiffutures by Josef—that will be the stuff of which December 16th's dream is made. But this week? Saws sawed, hammers banged, lights flickered on and off—and over in one corner of the patio Mrs. Thomas Holdcraft besought her choral group in something less than a whisper "I SAID LET'S SING 'SILENT NIGHT!" "Dream world? Right now it's a nightmare!" muttered the harassed general chairman, Billlie Harting. "Won't somebody get me a coke before I faint?" Director Fen Pennock shook his script stageward in anguish. "No, no, no! Go back. This is the skating scene. We don't get to the race track for 20 minutes!" he pleaded. "Hey, what happened to the lights?" "Whoops, there goes another fuse," apologized lighting director Bob McVoy. "Hold everything for a minute." Herb Tuckerman, in drape-shape overalls, crawled out from under the run-way he was setting in place to inquire plaintively who had swiped his hammer. Assistant technical director Harry Hamilton confessed and handed it over. Properties manager Janie Gobat complained they'd have to have a fatter chimney or a thinner Santa Claus. Over wires, around stage settings and between saw-horses, Tom Duff and Ike Macy whirled partners in rehearsals of rhumba and waltz routines. On the bandstand Phillis Kapp practiced a burlicue strut to tunes beat out by pianist Ted Slack Jr., while narrator Jimmy McMahon whispered hoarsely into the microphone. Sam Eleook and Helen Pennock entreated every cast member they could catch to spell out names for program and publicity releases, while stage manager Mrs. O. F. Martin shepherded "actors" to their places for upcoming scenes. "Chin up, shoulders back; chin up, shoulders back," models coached themselves sotto voce as they practiced the mannequins slink on the outer edges of the crowded patio. "Hey, there! Come on over and join the fun!"

Skagseths, Sudlows, Culleys Are Proud Gran'mas, Gran'pas
A baby girl, Johanna Elizabeth, was born Wednesday in Atlanta, Ga., to Mr. and Mrs. William Sudlow—and happier than anybody were the two Sudlow boys, five-and-a-half year old Billy and Arne, two-and-a-half. When Mrs. Sudlow, the former Johanna Skagseth of Coral Gables, went to the hospital Monday, the boys' father told them that five boys had been born that day in the hospital and not one girl baby—so chances for a sister looked pretty slim. "Ah, gee, we wanta sister cause we wanna call her 'Sissy'!" said Billy. Hospital trends to the contrary—that's just what they got. Proud grandparents of the new baby are Mr. and Mrs. Arne Skagseth of 1510 Granada Boulevard and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Sudlow of 2952 S.W. 38th Court. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Culley of 906 Columbus Boulevard are rejoicing over the arrival of their second grandson, Michael Culley Christopherson, who was born October 15th at San Diego, Cal., to Navy Lieut. and Mrs. Chris Christopherson. Michael's mother is the former Miss Joyce Culley. Mrs. Culley was in San Diego to greet her new grandson at the time of his birth.
Lillian Curry's Troth Revealed By Parents
A February third wedding is planned for Miss Lillian Joyce Curry and Talmadge A. The double ring ceremony uniting the couple will take place at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Coconut Grove, with the Rev. Rex Wilkes officiating. Miss Curry has chosen Mrs. Frank Havlicek as matron of honor and serving as bridesmaids will be Miss Margaret Berdeaux and Miss Helen Conkling. Both the bride and groom-elect are graduates of Miami Senior High school. Miss Curry is associated with the Florida National Bank in Coral Gables. Mr. Buchanan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. By HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR Mrs. A. W. Lummis never misses an Alabama hunting season visit with the members of her family if she can help it, for her brothers who live on the ancestral 1,700 acre farm at Calvert, near Mobile, are adept with rifle and shotgun. Therefore she had a super time during her recent six-day stay, feasting on venison, partridges and wild ducks. Just back from Mobile, Mrs. Lummis is busy with plans for the "Fine Arts Breakfast" which will have its initial date in February, but which she hopes will become an annual event. Winner herself of several awards for outstanding work done in literature and drama, through chairmanships of these groups in the Woman's club in past years, Mrs. Lummis is chairman of the Fine Arts group for her club this season. MRS. LUMMIS * * * Continuing the prenuptial parties for bride-elect Miss Lorraine Purvis, daughter of the Hugh Purvises, 4515 Avenue Santa Maria, Mrs. J. F. Bauder will entertain at a Christmas theme coffee from 11 to 1 p. m. tomorrow at her home, 1695 Tigertail Avenue, Coconut Grove. Mrs. Purvis, mother of the bride-to-be, will preside at the coffee service. Invited from out of town are Mrs. John E. Morris, mother of the groom-to-be, and Miss Polly Morris, his sister; also Mrs. Dwight Rogers Jr., Mrs. Jack Warner, Mrs. John Ring, Mrs. Harry Randel and Mrs. Steve O'Connell, all of Ft. Lauderdale. * * * Yellow chrysanthemums, red and yellow-brown leaves decorated the individual tables for the luncheon and bridge Mrs. Joseph F. Smith and Mrs. George M. Wisner gave Wednesday at El Dorado in Coconut Grove. First in a series of parties planned by the Coral Gables hostesses, the quaint dining room at El Dorado, which has been extensively enlarged, proved ideal for the large private party. * * * Mrs. Richard Earle Davis left yesterday for Forsythe, Ga., to serve as bridesmaid at the wedding of Miss Catherine Hardin, who was bridesmaid for Mrs. Davis last year, and Lee Trammel Newton. The ceremony will take place next Thursday. Mrs. Davis, the former Miss Lareeta Cater, will be the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Cater of Coral Gables and Forsythe, at whose Georgia home the rehearsal dinner for the bride and groom-elect will be held. Mr. Davis join his wife in Forsythe in time for the wedding and both will remain to spend Christmas with the Caters. * * * Mrs. Philip A. Helmbold of 4300 Palmarito Road, left Tuesday for Washington, D. C., where she will join her husband, Colonel Helmbold for about a week's visit. The couple will go on to New York where they will visit their daughter Roxie Helmbold, a student at Miss Finch's School. Roxie and Peggy Lee Dean of Birmingham, another Finch girl, are leaving on the 18th to attend the parties incident to the formal debut of their former classmate, Miss Joan Markle, which will take place in New Orleans, La., on the 24th. Miss Markle was graduated from Finch's last year.
