Yule Music Chosen by Methodists

Guilmant's "Noel Alsacien" will be the prelude presented during the worship service at 10:50 at the First Methodist Church of South Miami Sunday morning. The offertory will be Malling's "Christmas Eve," and the postlude, played by church organist, Dr. Arthur Davis, will be "March of the Magi" by Gaul. Rev. Carrell Vowels will deliver a sermon entitled: "On the Road to Jericho." Beginning at 9:45 a. m., Sunday School classes are held for all ages. Also meeting at this time are the Good Fellowship Class and the Friendship Class. The evening service will be devoted to a discussion of the church location. All members and friends are invited.

'Deserter' Theme For Lutheran Sunday Sermon

In observance of the third Sunday in Advent, Rev. C. J. Sutorius will preach the sermon "A Deserter Who Made Good" at 11 a. m. Sunday at the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church. Providing classes for all age groups, the Sunday School will meet at 10 a. m. Following the regular service, officers will be elected in both church and Sunday School.

Schaaf to Preach On Bible Sunday

On the occasion of International Bible Sunday this coming Sunday, Dr. Nevin H. Schaaf will speak of "Living Values in the Holy Book" at the 11 o'clock morning worship service of the First Presbyterian church of Coral Gables. A christmas musical program will be presented by the choir, directed by Beatrice Hunt, and organist Warner Hardman. The Anthem, "Glory to God in the Highest" by Matthews, will be sung by the choir of 20 voices. Nicholas Shipukie, baritone, will sing Gounod's "Nazareth." Young Adult Youth Forum will meet at 7 p.m. to elect officers for the new year. In charge of the program will be Miss Eris Stevens, who will also be hostess to the group after the meeting at her home on 335 Avenue Madeira.

Rev. Hagler Will Discuss Bible and Destiny

Universal Bible Sunday will be observed during the 11 a. m. worship service of Bryan Memorial Methodist Church in Coconut Grove Sunday morning. The pastor, Rev. Albert Dale Hagler, will deliver a sermon entitled: "The Bible and World Destiny." Sunday School will meet at 9:45 a. m. Beginning at 7 p. m., the Intermediate Fellowship, under the leadership of Mrs. L. E. Michelfelder, will meet at the church. The Youth Fellowship, led by Mrs. Roy A. Perry, will meet at 7:45 p. m. Under the direction of Mrs. Marian Davis, the choir will rehearse at 8 p. m. Thursday evening at the church.

Country Club Christians To Hear Rev. Arline

The Rev. Thomas Arline will be the guest speaker at the 11 o'clock morning worship service at the Country Club Christian Church, 1009 E. Ponce de Leon Boulevard (worshipping in the Woman's Club Building adjoining the Public Library), Coral Gables, according to an announcement by the pastor, the Rev. Harvey John Fritsch. The Rev. Mr. Arline, who recently affiliated himself with the church, will speak on "The Inn-keeper of Bethlehem." The Rev. Mr. Fritsch will conduct the Holy Communion will follow. Miss Charlotte Hicks, soprano, will sing the offertory solo. The choir, under the direction of Roland Ruppert Sr., will sing "Come Unto Me, Ye Weary," by Landon. The incidental solo will be sung by Ramona Singer. Christian Endeavor meets at 6:45 p. m. The March of Time movie "The F.B.I." will be shown. All young people are invited to attend. Bible School meets at 10 a.m. with classes for every age.

Christian Science Lesson-Sermon Is Announced

First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Coral Gables is opposite City Hall Park. Morning service, 11 a.m. Evening service, 8 p.m. Sunday School, 11 a.m. Wednesday evening 8 o'clock. "God the Preserver of Man" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon which will be read in Churches of Christ, Scientist, throughout the world on Sunday, December 14. The Golden Text is: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Psalms 91:1). Among the citations which comprise the Lesson-Sermon is the following from the Bible: "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms" (Deuteronomy 33:27). The Lesson-Sermon also includes the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "'Now,' cried the apostle, 'is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation,'-meaning, not that now men must prepare for a future-world salvation, or safety, but that now is the time in which to experience that salvation in spirit and in life. . . . To break this earthly spell, mortals must get the true idea and divine Principle of all that really exists and governs the universe harmoniously" (39:18-22, 25-27).

Sparling to Preach St. Philip's Sermon

In recognition of the third Sunday in Advent, Dr. Christopher P. Sparling will speak on "The Four Last Things" this Sunday at St. Philip's Episcopal church. Holy Communion will be observed at 8 a.m. Church School meets at 9:30 a.m. and the Adult class and the Junior Adult class meet at 10 o'clock.

Xmas is Theme Of Dr. Daniel

"Christmas Without Christ" will be the sermon message of Rev. J. H. Daniel this Sunday at the Coral Gables First Methodist Church. The anthem for this service will be Wilson's "There Were Shepherds." Robert Kistler, violin soloist, will present Tschaikowsky's "Canzonetti." Marion McCreedy, soloist, will sing "Jesu Bambino" by Pietro Yon.

'Today's Trouble' Dr. Larson's Theme

The Gables Presbyterian church is now conducting a full schedule of church activity each Sunday in the Merrick Demonstration school at 39 Avenue Zamora. Beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday School classes for all age groups are conducted. A church service of worship is held from 11 until 12 o'clock, during which time a nursery school is conducted for children of pre-school ages. Dr. R. M. Larson's Sunday morning sermon topic is "Today's Trouble." During the evening worship hour he will speak on "Whose Wife Is She?"

Bible Sunday Scheduled by Presbyterians

Universal Bible Sunday will be observed in the Riviera Presbyterian Church this Sunday. At the 11 a. m. service, Rev. Bruce Cumming will speak to the congregation on a subject titled: "Book of the Month Every Month." With classes for all ages, the Church School opens at 9:30 a. m. Youth Fellowship and Pioneer young people meet at 6 p. m. At the evening worship hour, which begins at 7:30 o'clock, Rev. Cumming will speak on "Living On Borrowed Capital." Plans are now being made for an all-Christmas service December 21. Under the direction of Mrs. Lucille Turner, special music will be rendered by the choir. The Church School Christmas party will be given Monday night, December 22.

Bible Theme Chosen by Rev. Messer

Universal Bible Sunday will be observed at the First Christian Church of Coral Gables this Sunday. The Rev. John W. Messer will speak on the theme: "One World-One Book." The choir, under the direction of Mrs. Rubie Jackson Brain, will render "Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled," by Dickey. Mrs. Paul Coe will sing "The Angel Gabriel." During the worship hour, which begins at 10:45, a nursery will be conducted for infants and small children. Beginning at 5 p.m., the Intermediate Fellowship will meet at the church for recreation, worship, and study. The Youth Fellowship will meet at 6 p.m. for their program.

Rev. Ray to Talk On Xmas Spirit

"The Spirit of Christmas Time" is the message to be delivered by Rev. George M. Ray this Sunday at the Coconut Grove Baptist church, 3226 Virginia Street. Sunday School will convene at 9:45. Baptist Training Uion will meet at the church at 6 p.m. At the 7:30 evening worship service, Rev. Ray will speak to the congregation on "The Changeless Christ."

Rev. Pavy Names Topic for Sermon

"The Light of Eternal Truth" is the topic of the sermon to be delivered by the Rev. Roy Gilmore Pavy at the 11 o'clock morning service of the Coral Gables Congregational Church this Sunday. During this service, Miss Helen Burrus, soloist, will sing "Shepherd Take Me By the Hand."

First Methodist Youth Program

A regular Sunday program centered around the interests and needs of young people will be inaugurated this Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Coral Gables First Methodist church. Recreational activities, which will appeal to Intermediates, Seniors, and Young People, will be the feature of this now program. Operating from 5 until 6:30 each Sunday afternoon, this Open House program will include a period of free choice activity, a period of group activity, and a fellowship supper. Croquet, badminton, volley ball, horseshoe pitching, crafts, music, table tennis, and other table games will be included in the free choice activities. Although this program is a part of the total educational program of the church and will be under the general supervision of the educational director, A. Glenn Waters, it will be planned by the young people who attend. A special recreation committee, which has been appointed, consists of: John Devitt, Roselyn Albury, Earl Mayo, John Wolfe, Ross Crocker, Fred Ingo, Jim Byrd, Joe Byr, Jimmy Brinson, Heather Woodard, and Cecil Vaughn. Mrs. Pauline Rhett will serve as the adult advisor to the committee. Following the fellowship suppers each Sunday, the evening meetings for the Intermediates, Seniors, and Young People will take place in their respective departments.
