PATRICK J. CESARANO, new president of the Riviera Country Club, and his wife, Beryl (Bunty), pose for pictures during the President's Ball Saturday night at the club. White satin draped the President's table seating all past presidents and their wives. White chrysanthemums in low plaques and silver candelabra with burning tapers decorated the long table raised at the south end of the big room. Mrs. Cesarano's gown of red peau de soie was designed with draped skirt caught to a large pouff in back and extending in a short train. Her accessories were gold, and her gloves were gold lame.

December Nuptial Plans Announced

Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Bates of 7415 SW 52nd Ct. are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Dorothy Clare, to Kenneth Norton Baker Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Norton Baker of Clinton, S. C. A December wedding is planned by the couple. The bride-elect is a graduate of Coral Gables High School and Agnes Scott College for Women, Decatur, Ga., where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English. While there she served on the executive committee of the Student Government and was president of her dormitory. She is presently a teacher in the Louisville, Ky. school system. Her fiance was graduated with a BS degree in chemistry from Presbyterian College, Clinton, S. C., where he was a member of Scabbard and Blade and Kappa Alpha fraternity. He recently completed his tour of duty with the United States Army with the rank of first lieutenant and is presently enrolled in the Dental School of the University of Louisville where he is a member of Delta Sigma Delta, dental fraternity.

Overcrowded storage closets, attics, basements or garages are dangerous fire hazards. Rubbish should be disposed of daily in closed metal containers, while storage items should not be packed in such a way as to become a pile of fuel for a fire.

Cancer Unit Will Benefit

The University of Miami's Cancer Research Department will benefit from the proceeds of a fashion show luncheon, the Granada Chapter, Woman's Cancer Association of the University, will give Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Riviera Country Club. Mrs. Melvin J. Robinson is general chairman of the show which is entitled "Do's and Don'ts" of fashion. Mrs. John Fitzsimmons is fashion director and Mrs. Samuel Dryer is in charge of reservations. Tickets are limited. Hostesses will be members of the Granada Chapter.

Gables Quota Is Conference Host

Aire R. Fulton of Coral Gables, governor of Quota Club International, Inc., 27th District is announcing the Fourth annual Conference of the district which was held beginning Friday through Sunday at the DuPont Plaza Hotel. Members of the Coral Gables Quotas are hostesses for the meeting. Distinguished guest will be Mrs. Anne G. Stillings of Richmond, Va., who is president of Quota International, Inc. Mrs. Stillings will conduct a by-law workshop at the afternoon session and speak at the brunch Sunday on "How to Build Strong Clubs." Mrs. Stillings is the 31st president of Quota International and has served five years on the International board of directors. Plum Loco Band Highlight of the installation banquet on Saturday evening will be the appearance of the "Plum Loco Band" of the Coco Plum Woman's Club, Coral Gables. Also on the entertainment list will be Jack Murphy of Coral Gables, who will present his "Panto-Maniac." Mrs. Carol Ringer of the Gables is general chairman of the conference and Mrs. Ann J. Smith, also of Coral Gables, is District secretary-treasurer. 350 Clubs Quota International, Inc., is an organization of 350 Quota Clubs in the U. S., Australia, Canada and Mexico, with membership restricted to professional and executive businesswomen. Among Quota's projects are Girl's Service, Aid to the Hard of Hearing and speech handicap, aid to the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency and Service to the Golden Age Group.

ROAL Names Mrs. Keifer

Mrs. William Keifer, 1125 Aduana Ave., is the 1961 president of ROAL (Reserve Officers Association *Ladies) for the coming year. This active group, whose main project is a monthly contribution to the emergency fund, Coral Gables Veterans Administration Hospital, met at the home of Mrs. Claude Wilson, 59 Romano Ave., where plans were made for the coming year. A benefit bridge party was held in early October at the home of Mrs. Daniel Wick, 8325 SW 62nd Pl., South Miami.

Hospital Auxiliary Will Hear Review

A coffee and book review sponsored by the South Miami Hospital Auxiliary will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the Wesley Foundation Building, University of Miami. Members and guests will be served coffee at 10 a.m., and at 10:30 a.m. Mrs. Frank Kerdyk will present a review, "Trustee from the Tool Room," by Nevil Shute. Mrs. Henry Bryant is president of the auxiliary and Mrs. Franklin J. Evans is chairman, book review.

New Members Are Welcomed

New members welcomed at a recent meeting of the Hi Neighbor Club include Miss Blanche Bagley, Mrs. Mahlon Clark, Mrs. Bertram Collins, Mrs. Dorothy Graves, Mrs. Bina Power, Mrs. J. C. Steinberg, Mrs. Lawrence Tannehill, Mrs. James R. Walsh and Mrs. J. C. Welmot. The meeting with lecture and colored slides of Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Steinberg's two year trip around the world was held at the Candlelight Inn.

Elizabeth Polk Semifinalist In Merit Test

Elizabeth A. Polk, of 9001 SW 65th Ct., enrolled at Walnut Hill School, Natick, Mass., is one of eight seniors honored for outstanding performance on the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The eight students and semifinalists make up less than three percent of all high school seniors across the country. Each commended student will receive a letter of commendation from his principal and the president of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Nine Pledge UF Sororities

Nine Coral Gables coeds at the University of Florida have been chosen as new pledges by seven national sororities. The girls and their sorority affiliations are: Charlene Herman and Karen Ann Stoltz, Alpha Delta Pi; Susan Eschleman, Alpha Chi Omega; Judy Kapner, Alpha Epsilon Phi; Carol Jaeger, Delta Gamma; Patricia Simon, Delta Phi Epsilon; Michele Dehart and Ingrid Hallberg, Zeta Tau Alpha; and Carol Kendrick, Sigma Kappa.

Mrs. Washbish Will Head Minerva Club

Mrs. Leslie C. Washbish, 1434 Robbia Ave., is the newly elected president of the Minerva Club (mother-sister club of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity). The new president presided at the first meeting and luncheon of the club at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Riviera Country Club. Other officers serving for the year are Mrs. J. E. Bandy, vice president; Mrs. George A. James, recording, and Mrs. H. J. Landry corresponding secretaries, and Mrs. Frank C. Eden treasurer. Mrs. A. N. Dunsmore is chairman of program. Mrs. Fred Acker is hospitality chairman.
