PLENTY OF PLANTERS
showed up when members of five Coral Gables organizations gathered recently to plant Amaryllis bulbs in a triangular garden off Ponce de Leon Blvd. at Alhambra Cir. Between 600-800 bulbs were planted Monday and it's expected they'll bloom in the shape of a cross at Easter. Showing up in their gardening clothes with spades in their hands were members of the Coral Gables Civic Club, Hi-Neighbor Club, Welcome Wagon, Woman's Association of the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables and the Coral Gables Woman's Club.
Poet And Teacher Will Give Program
A Coral Gables poet and teacher will present the program at the meeting of the Miami Branch, National League of American Pen Women, Friday at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Wade Livingston Street, 1024 Alhambra Cir., will be hostess. Mrs. J. Riley Staats, 5110 San Amaro Dr., will read Christmas poetry written by a number of early authors and will include a number of her own Christmas poems which have been published in various magazines. Holiday poems written by creative writing students taught by Mrs. Staats at Southwest High School will conclude the program. A Christmas poem by Mrs. Staats has recently been accepted by Ideals magazine. Mana Zucca (Mrs. Irwin N. Cassell), nationally known composer member of the branch, has been made an honorary member of the National League of American Pen Women. She has been an honorary member of the Miami Branch for many years. Mrs. J. R. Underwood, vice president, will have charge of the program which will open with carol singing. Mrs. Lloyd Rees, 1418 Cecelia, president, will conduct the business meeting and board session which will precede the program.
Vizcaya Plans White Doves And Music
Norman Clayton, associate director of choirs at the Coral Gables First Methodist Church, will direct a chorus of 64 young voices in a half hour of Christmas music at 3 p.m. Dec. 11, at Vizcaya. The children will be in choir cottas and will stand in the arcades surrounding the open courtyard where a huge Christmas tree will be raised. The theme of the program is "Peace." The tree will be trimmed exclusively with the traditional heralds of peace-white doves. Sponsored by the Vizcayans, Mrs. Roberta Keyes of Coral Gables is guidance chairman.
Center To Hold Sculpture Class
Workshops in beginning sculpture and advanced ceramics will be held at the Coral Gables Youth Center, 400 Andalusia Ave., the week of Dec. 5. Carlie Tart, graduate of the University of Miami and former art instructor in the Dade County Public Schools, will conduct the workshops. The beginners' sculpture classes will be held Dec. 5-8, 9 a.m.-noon, and Dec. 9, 1-4 p.m. Advanced ceramics, covering the whole field of clay, will be Dec. 5-9, 7-10 p.m. The fee will be $20 for each 15-hour course. Materials will be available for a small charge if students cannot furnish their own. Reservations should be made in advance.

Biltmore Golfer Heads Miami Group
For the second year in a row The Biltmore Women's Golf Association has had a member elected president of the Greater Miami Golf Association. The newly elected president is Mrs. Claude Kinder, a past golf chairman and president of Biltmore Women's Golf Association. The outgoing president is Mrs. Helen Anderson, member of Biltmore Women's Golf Association and Coral Gables Country Club. The installation of officers and luncheon was held at the Miami Shores Country Club, Tuesday, Nov. 29. The Biltmore Women's Golfers have just concluded a "turkey Shoot" tournament, sponsored by Mrs. Samie Dickinson and Mrs. Howard Plasmann. They donated six turkeys. The winners in a low net tournament were: Class "A", Miss Jane Fraser and Mrs. Mary Brown; Class "B", Mrs. A. Bachmann and Mrs. Audrey Hanna; Class "C", Mrs. M. Finerty and Mrs. Helen Singer. The Biltmore Women's Golf Association is now planning for the forthcoming second annual Coral Gables Opener, which will be given Dec. 5 for a week.
