Final Activities Palmetto's Top 25 Seniors Named
By EUNICE TALL Correspondent Top 25 seniors in the first Palmetto graduating class are Sandra Pearce, valedictorian, Charles Gitomer and Ben Miller, salutatorians, William Brown, Gerald Ginader, Brenda Muhlinghaus, Wayne Martin, Roger King, Edwina Balstraz, Carolyn White, Michael Street, Fred Baljet, John Tucker, Lynne Leondard, Rebekah Shelley, Dade Darby, Austin Letson, Jon Preu, Judy Ling, Jakob Jonsson, Emerson Moran, Larry Grafton, Linda Dravenstadt, and Clinton Terry. Rankings were set according to averages through the first semester of this year. The first annual Palmetto Junior-Senior Prom will be Saturday, at Miami Springs Villas from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The prom is presented to the graduating seniors by the Junior Class. The theme of the prom is centered around "Caprice at Camelot." Entertainment will be provided by the Clubmen Band. Money to finance the prom was raised through a Junior Class magazine drive held in February. The prom is under the direction of Robin Shelley, president of the Junior Class, and Kay Williams, secretary-treasurer. Class sponsors are Mrs. Margaret Dinn, and Mr. Vance McCauley.
Industrial Art Awards Go To Palmetto Students
By EUNICE TALL Correspondent Six Palmetto students won awards at the Annual Student Craftsman Fair, sponsored by [?] Dade County Industrial Arts Association. The students are John Long, first place printing; Ronnie Foute, and Eddie Hagan, second places, architectural drawing; Erwin Grau, second place, Carol Rosenbaum and Jackie Hilton, third places, electricity. JCL Palmetto's Junior Classical League, Latin Club, has new officers. They are Mary Claire Dothard, president; Cheryl Hite, vice president; Mimi Klein, secretary; and Dennis Stanley, treasurer. David Johnston, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Johnston of 7315 SW 97th St., received an appointment to the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, May 22. Ray Green, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Green of 8500 SW 92nd St., was the third place recipient in the National Kodak High School Photo Contest, 1961. He will receive a $100 cash award for his submitted photograph. MAJORETTES Palmetto majorettes competed in state competition last week and came out victorious. A and B Corps were rated superior in the Florida State Festival at Moore Park May 19. Both A and B Corps also received first place in the Florida State Contest. In the Twirling Division Sally Kulp received a first; Judi Davis, first; Jackie LaPerche, first; Janice Brown, first; Mary Alice Goetz, second; Cheryl Wills, second; and Eva Fishalmyer, third place. Mary Alice Goetz also placed first in the Strutting Division. JCL A combined banquet, awards assembly, and dance were held last week at the Biscayne Terrace Hotel to conclude the year's activities of Palmetto's Junior Classical League, (Latin Club). New officers of JCL for 1961-62 are Mary Claire Dothard, president; Cheryl Hite, vice president; Mimi Klein, secretary; and Dennis Stanley, treasurer. Sponsors are Mrs. Evelyn McBroom and Mrs. Elizabeth Volpetti, Latin teachers.

West Miami Junior High Taps Girls
West Miami Junior High School's Future Homemakers [o]f America elected 14 members to junior degrees and 10 received chapter degrees. Those receiving the junior degree are Michele Levine, Nan Lawrence, Karen Kelly, Janice Dye, Jo Ann Meyers, Diane Schumacker. Barbara Kelly, Barbara Sheldon, Carla Morgan, Carol Jean Archer, Ethel Foster, [Ph]yllis Burrows, Gerry Sand-[?]iss and Marcia Swan. Chapter degree winners are Sandra Korn, Lorna Haffer, Roslyn Cotsen, Lorraine Kline, Brenda Cochrane. Nancy Conklin, Patricia Nichols, Jo Ann Serani, Carolyn Curtis and Sandra Mathis.
