Dime Store Man's Art Gift To Be Dedicated Nov. 15
Two days of ceremonies will herald the opening in November of the Kress Wing at the Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery, University of Miami, new permanent home for an impressive collection of works provided for the community by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. Gallery Director C. Clay Aldridge announced the 41 paintings and four sculptures will be on permanent exhibition in the new wing beginning Thursday, Nov. 16, one day after the formal dedication. Members of the Kress family and numberous art and community dignitaries will participate in the activities getting under way with a dinner given by UM President Jay F. W. Pearson to honor the Kress family Tuesday evening, Nov. 14. A reception and preview for Lowe Gallery members will be held later in the evening. An invitational luncheon for leaders in the community will precede the brief formal dedication ceremony at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, which will be open to the public. The wing will be dedicated to the late Claude Washington Kress. The collection consists of works spanning the 14th through 17th centuries, mostly by Italian artists with a few of French and German origin. Artists represented include such masters as Robbia, Crespi, Tintoretto, Guardi, Bellini, and Correggio. Intended as a gift for the entire community, the collection is the last of 18 to de distributed by the Kress Foundation costing in excess of $50,000,000, have been dispersed during the past two decades. The wing housing the collection at Lowe Gallery has two rooms with a total of 2,100 square feet of floor space. A marble archway by the 15th Century sculptor Andrea Bregno, also part of the Kress gift, divides the two rooms. Cost of the wing was more than $100,000, of which the principal amount was donated by the Joe and Emily Lowe Foundation and gallery benefactor Mrs. Nino (Ione Staley) Bisso, member of the UM Board of Trustees. Mr. Lowe and Mrs. Bisso are both on the Gallery's Board of Regents. Opening in the Gallery as a companion to the Kress collection will be an important loan exhibition of approximately 24 Spanish-Peruvian paintings of the Cuzco school, selected by Mrs. Frank Barrows Freyer of Denver, Colo., from the works owned by her family. One of the finest collections of its type in the country, it was assembled in the early 1920's with the permission of the Peruvian government. The Freyer exhibition will continue through Jan. 28, 1962, together with an exhibition of contemporary works and old masters from the Gallery's permanent collection. Also coinciding with the Kress opening will be the re-opening of the Alfred I. Barton Wing for Indian Art of the Americas, a permanent collection that includes a distinguished group of textiles by Indian tribes of the Southwest. The Florida Craftsmen's Exhibition at the Gallery will close Oct. 29, 1961. Gallery hours during shows are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tues. through Sat., 2-5 p.m. Sunday, closed Monday.

facts about fit
It is customary to think of men as being short, medium or tall in height and thin, medium or heavy in girth. And that. in fact. was about the way the clothing industry thought of men fifty years or more ago. An up-and-coming young company that had started life in 1872 wasn't satisfied with such a simplification however. It collected the measurements of thousands of men. It analyzed them. And in 1906 it started cutting clothes to fit the male figure as it really is, in all its many varieties. Today a Hart Schaffner & Marx suit is made in no less than 253 shapes and sizes (14 shapes and up to 20 sizes in each). But wait. Many of these suits can be had in a number of different models ranging from the conservative to the high fashion. Thus, there can be more than a thousand different shapes, sizes and models of a suit in one particular fabric! To a supply sergeant it would be a nightmare. But what a blessing to a man who wants clothes that feel well and look well. All he has to do is to go to Dick Richmond where Hart Schaffner & Marx clothes are sold exclusively.
