Palmetto High Represented in Bows by Debs
By EUNICE TALL Correspondent Three Palmetto girls and two alumni were presented as 1961 debutantes by the King's Bay Yacht and Country Club Dec. 28. Debutante Jan Wackenhut is active at Palmetto as treasurer of National Honor Society; vice president of Spanish National Honor Society; member of Girls' Council, Girls' Sports Club, and Senior Board. Jan is secretary of the King's Bay Teen Board. Palmetto seniors Ray Ferrell and Bill Coleman escorted Jan at the Deb Ball. Senior Ann Willis is a member of the Palmetto Student Council; the swimming team; and L'Avant Garde, art club. She has designed a mural now being completed in the Palmetto library. She was former secretary-treasurer of the Class of '62, sophomore year. Pete Schaefer and Don Pipes escorted Ann. Escorting Deb Kathy Turk, Palmetto senior, were William Gillis and Kurt Schenholm. Palmetto alumni girls presented as debutantes were Meri Lee Bitz and Margaret Fairchilds. Meri Lee is now attending the University of Miami and Margaret is a student at Barry College. * * * Pat Lehre, a Palmetto sophomore, plays the part of teen-ager Margie Ann in the current Coconut Grove production of "Bye Bye Birdie." Pat, who is interested in drama, obtained the part after auditioning the first day of play rehearsal.
