Latest Jamaican fashions to highlight group luncheon
An exclusive showing of the latest Jamaican fashions will highlight a luncheon of the Dade South Region of Women's American ORT, School of Engineering, Monday, Jan. 31. The Sheraton Four Ambassadors Hotel will be the site of the event, which begins at 11 a.m. Donation is $15 or $25 for a sponsor. Sex and schools "Sexism and Your Schools" will be the evening's topic at the Miami-Kendall Chapter of NOW scheduled at the Dade Federal Savings and Loan, 10301 S. Dixie Hwy., Thursday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. A slide show will be presented and Dr. Rita-Bornstein of the University of Miami will speak. The public is invited. Tournament An open Scrabble Crossword tournament will be hosted by the Miami Mensa Club at 10:45 Sunday, Jan. 30 in the Stephen Clark Building, 1650 NW 37th Ave. Admission is $1. Singles dance The Dade Broward Retinitis Pigmentosa Chapter is throwing a combined Singles Clubs dance for children afflicted with the retina-destroying disease. The dance will be Saturday, Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. at the American Legion Post No. 29, 6445 NE Seventh Ave. The Norman Wayne Orchestra will play and a bar will be available. There is a donation of $2. Meeting The South Dade Chamber of Commerce Club Liaison Committee will have its monthly meeting at the new chamber offices, 900 Perrine Ave. The meeting will begin at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 9. Club activities should be ready for presentation to the group and in written form. For information, call the Chamber office at 238-7192. Tropical ferns The International Tropical Fern Society will meet Thursday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. at the Merrick Demonstration School, 39 Zamora Ave. Topic will the Rare Test Tube Platyceriums, Staghorn Ferns, presented by Elaine Spear. Plant auction The South Dade Amateur Orchid Club will have its annual plant auction Friday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. at the South Miami Junior High School Auditorium, 6750 SW 60th St.
