Presbyterian Rites Join Hoehls | Johanna Weiland Becomes Bride; Three Sisters Among Her Attendants
Spending their honeymoon in Kingston, Jamaica, are Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Hoehl, whose marriage was an event of Friday night at the First Presbyterian Church. A wedding which united prominent pioneer families of Coral Gables, and witnessed by a large group of pioneers to this section, the new Mrs. Hoehl, the former Miss Johanna Jean Weiland, is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Herman Weiland of 1104 Avenue Malaga. Mr. Hoehl is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Sebastian Hoehl of 1307 Lisbon street. Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose traditional white bridal satin for her gown, imported French illusion for her veil and stephanotis and white orchids for her bouquet. Attended by six girls, including her three sisters, the bride's maid of honor, Miss Patricia (Patsy) Weiland, wore a yellow faille gown with fitted bodice, draped full sweep skirt matching long gloves and off the face bonnet of yellow illusion. Mrs. Robert McNaughton, nea Patricia Adams, matron of honor and bridesmaids, Miss Crutcher Field, Miss Martha Thomas, Miss Mary Lou Weiland and junior brides maid Judy Sue Weiland wore blue faille fashioned like the honor maid's. Bouquets of delphinium blue and matching met bonnets completed their costumes. Williams S. Hoehl was best man for his brother and groomsmen were Jos. Stewart, William Pierce, William Cary, Martin Avery and James Paine. RECEPTION More than 300 guests attended the reception at the Weiland home following the nuptials. Mrs. Weiland received wearing a gown of greige crepe with matching lace pattern in sequins. Pale green tulle hat and white orchids completed her costume. Mrs. Hoehl, mother of the bridegroom, wore blue and gray chiffon small matching hat and orchid corsage. A stringed orchestra played throughout the evening in the spacious gardens of the Weiland home. Mrs. James Beirnes, nee Jane Cook, kept the bride's book. Assisting were Miss Barbara Findley, Mrs. James Hutson, Miss Cornelia Jones, Miss Phyllis Arthur, and Miss Jane Arthur Etheridge. Both the bride and groom were educated in the Coral Gables schools. The bride attended Miss Harris' Florida school and was graduated from Miami Senior High school. By HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR June is decidedly the month of brides and one pretty blonde bride of Coral Gables, the former Miss Ellen Coralova Clark who, on June 5th became the bride of Paul Ludwig Andre, holds a unique position, perhaps, over the other June brides. Ella was the first bride to patronize Coral Gables' own exclusive new Trousseau Shop, "Zebbie's," where her trousseau and the gowns of her attendants were hand-made. Ella was the first bride to walk down the aisle of the new St James Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was the first bride to have her entire wedding ceremony and music recorded by the Coral Gables first radio station, WBAY. As the wedding guests approached the Clark home for the reception they again heard the soft strains of the wedding marches and heard the vows repeated via the radio! * * * Bride-elect Miss Helen Giersch has filled her social calendar with parties planned for her right up to the eve of her marriage, June 21, to William Reynolds Wilson III. Wednesday Mrs. Roy Evans entertained with a luncheon and kitchen shower at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Today, between the hours of 4 and 5 o'clock, Mrs. A. J. Carmichael and Mrs. Raymond Fisher will entertain at a tea at the latter's home. * * * Mrs. Hoomes Rich will entertain at a coffee from 11:30 to 1:30 o'clock today at her home, 216 Campina Court, honoring her mother, Mrs. J. J. Wilson, Jr., who arrived Monday from Charleston, S. C. for a visit. * * * Golden wedding bells are ringing for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Black of 1103 Ferdinand Street, who left Saturday for Baltimore, Md., where they will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Marking the same date for their marriage are also Mr. and Mrs. Robert Black, Jr., at whose home the double date party will take place. The senior Mr. and Mrs. Black's other son Ernest Black, Eastern Air Lines pilot, accompanied his parents to Baltimore for the festivities. * * * Miss Nancy Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Macklin Jones, 4520 S. W. 15th Street, is enjoying a house party at Daytona Beach with other members of her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta this week. Miss Jones has completed her freshman year at Florida State College, and is enroute home. * * * Miss Mary Tower, teen-age daughter of the Nelson Towers, 1131 Avenue Obispo, entertained for her house guest and classmate, Miss Jeanette Vaulot, of Havana, Cuba, with a barbecue prior to Jeanette's plane trip home. The girls are students at St. Genieve-of-the-Woods, Asheville, N. C. At the party (and they had real fillet mignon) were Jane Lewis, Freddie Lu Wilcox, Patsy Hardin and Frances Olney.
