Free Daily Tennis Clinic Planned At Salvadore Park
A free tennis clinic, sponsored by the City of Coral Gables will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. every day except Sunday at Salvadore Park, Leo Fullwood, city pro, announced today. The first session will be held on Saturday morning. Instruction on service, forehand and backhand will be emphasized. There is no age limit, and players ranging from 6 years to 30 years were on the courts last Saturday and will join the clinic classes. Develops Players In announcing the daily clinics, Fullwood stated that four young players were developed as a result of the Saturday morning clinics that started in October. They include Paul Setz, manager of the Ponce netters; Al Harum, top boys player at Salvadore who will return to the courts in two weeks following a minor operation; Henry Lyden, diminutive stylist now vacationing in Ohio and young Dave Harum who is pointing for a place on the Salvadore team. Balls Provided Balls used in the Coral Gables Invitational Tournament will be available for clinic use. The clinic is patterned after those held by William F. White, tennis pro for 33 years at the Merion Cricket Club, Haverford, Pa., where Fullwood assisted last summer. Additional information may be obtained by phoning the park, 4-9522.
Will Dedicate New Flag Pole At Youth Center
Formal Flag Pole Celebration Ceremonies will be held by Coral Gables Post 98, the American Legion, Saturday, 2:30 P. M. at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center. The Coral Gables Post was among the first to propose a Youth Center for Coral Gables as a living memorial to the Coral Gables boys who gave their lives in the recent war. As a visual symbol the Post has erected a flag pole at the Youth Center, and pledged itself to keep an American flag flying there. Dedication ceremonies will be conducted by Ed Deering, past Commander of Post 98, assisted by the Dade County Guard of Honor and members of the Post. Memorial services will be conducted in honor of Coral Gables men who gave their lives during the war by the Dade County Guard of Honor under Lt. Stanely Gratton. The public is invited to attend these ceremonies. Following the ceremonies a barbecue will be held at the open fireplace on the Youth Center grounds.
New York Visitor Returns
After several weeks' visit as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hawley B. Royall, 1134 Avenue Sorolla and a week's stay at the Cromwell Hotel, Miami Beach, Miss Dora Holman returned home by plane to New York City. Mr. Royall's sister, Mrs. D. R. Ellis, of Savannah, Ga., was also a guest of the Royalls for several days, on her way to and from Key West, where she visited her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Ellis, Jr.
In the first eleven months of 1946, the railroad accident death toll was 3,928—a 7 per cent decrease from 1945.
Elk Program Is Outlined By Healy
An extensive program of activities, beginning with special Flag Day ceremonies on Sunday, has been announced by Andrew T. Healy, Exalted Ruler of the Coral Gables Elks Lodge. The Flag Day ceremonies, which begin at 3 p.m. at the club house will include an exemplification of the history of the flag by nine young ladies. The program will be directed by Rev. Harvey John Fritsch, Past Exalted Ruler Walter Wigman will be the lecturer while Exalted Ruler Healy will conduct a ceremony commemorating the making of the Liberty Bell. Anniversary Meeting On June 19, a special program has been arranged for the meeting commemorating the second anniversary of the chartering of the local lodge. A large anniversary class will be initiated and refreshments served following the meeting. A pool tournament is now underway at the club with finals slated for June 27, with the Wigman Trophy as first prize. Dance Planned Plans are now in the making for a Fourth of July dinner dance and a field day for the boys and girls of Coral Gables, scheduled for Labor Day. Al Harum has been named chairman for the Labor Day event, assisted by Jack Gramley, John Rosasco and John Noppenberg.

Four Students Are Awarded Legion Medals
Annual school awards for citizenship have been presented at St. Theresa and Ponce de Leon Schools by Post 98 American Legion. Awards at Ponce were made by City Commissioner David Hendrick, Jr., representing the Post, to Anne Meyer and Larry Kilbride. At St. Theresa the girl's medal was presented to Jean Tierny by Mrs. F. R. Wickard, Auxiliary president while Commander F. R. Wickard awarded the boy's medal to James Wilhelm. Both ceremonies were under the direction of Lt. Col. Joseph Ryan Byerly, chairman of the Legion's school awards committee.

King's Daughters' Circle to Hold Tea
The Emma J. Cronin Circle of the Kings Daughters and Sons held a silver tea at the home of Mrs. M. C. Cronin, 3291 Riviera Drive Monday. Mrs. Carnes Austin gave a talk on "The Lure of the Trail." Among visitors was Mrs. J. M. Wilhelmina Cronin Hamilton, prominent citizen of Washington, D. C., a native of Holland, and who has just returned from a tour of European countries. Present were Mesdames R. L. Cristee, D. Lave Bosworth, Carr F. Hosford, B. C. Van Dyke, G. W. Coffin, E. S. Seering, Vernie L. Meters, F. X. Zeiser, H. L. Caldwell, John Gossler, A. E. To Utica
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rath left this week for Utica, N. Y., where they will summer as usual. Mr. Rath will be connected with Colgate University at Hamilton, N. Y., for several weeks.
In Toyko
Mrs. C. R. Liggitt, who as Mrs. Elizabeth Liggitt will be remembered by loads of Coral Gables Elementary School children for she taught there many years, has joined her husband in Toyko, Japan. Mr. Liggitt is with the occupational forces as prosecutor of war criminals for the government. They will be away about two years.
Army-Navy Club Directors to Meet
A meeting of the board of directors of the Army and Navy Club of Coral Gables has been called for 12:15 Saturday afternoon at the Country Club of Coral Gables, it was announced today by Reginald L. Williams, secretary-treasurer.
