Sunday Ceremony Unites Miss Lois Champion And Robert Calloway Ferguson
Candid camera catches MR. AND MRS. ROBERT CALLOWAY FERGUSON as they leave by motor, bound on their honeymoon. After three weeks at Titusville Beach they will visit in New Orleans, La. —Lloyd Le Man photo Sunday afternoon was chosen by the former Miss Lois Ward Champion, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Leslie Champion of 1218 Madrid Street, and Robert Calloway Ferguson for their marriage which took place at the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Nevin H. Schaaf officiated at the ceremony which was followed by a reception in the church patio. Mr. Ferguson, a former Miamian, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sebron Weathers Ferguson, now of Orlando. A gown of white Chantilly lace formed the bride's wedding dress and gauntlets and her her veil of French illusion was attached to a tiara of seed pearls. Her only ornament was a single strand of pearls, her bridegroom's gift. The six attendants included the bride's sister and two nieces. They were Miss Nell Champion, maid-of-honor; Mrs. Nina Pacetti, matron-of-honor, and the Misses Jeanne Serouse and Carol Lee Turner, bridesmaids. Sandra Chupp and Mary Louise Boymer were flower girls. Pastel gowns in nylon marquisette with matching halos and veils and harmonizing bouquets of Gerber Daisies completed their costumes. SERVES AS NURSE The bride is a graduate of Ponce de Leon High School, where she was a member of Pi Beta Nu sorority. She spent two years during the war as a cadet nurse at Charity Hospital, New Orleans. Mr. Ferguson is a graduate of Edison High School and is now a premed student at the University of Miami. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Out of town wedding guests included Mrs. James M. Chupp, Jacksonville, sister of the bride; Mrs. Charles Huber, Washington, D. C., and Tampa; Mr. and Mrs. Needham Bryan and daughter Barbara and Constance, and Mrs. R. C. Brady, all of Titusville; Lt. and Mrs. Fred W. Botts, Jr., Jacksonville, and Miss Jeanne Behrens, Fort Lauderdale.
Summer Theater Ticket Sales Start Monday
Ticket sales for "Ladies of the Jury" second production of the Country Club of Coral Gables Summer Theatre will go on sale Monday at the club information desk, J. Francis Hickey, ticket chairman, announced today. Telephone reservations as well as over the counter sales will be handled on Wednesday and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and any evening from 8 to 11 p.m. The play will be presented July 1st and 3rd. Assisting Hickey on the ticket committee are Mrs. E. C. Hodge, Mrs. Charles Harting, Mrs. Peggy Postal and Mrs. Lee Gebhart.
ST. PHILIP'S CAMP IN AUGUST
Reservations are already being made for the second year August 4-30, inclusive for St. Philip's Boys' Camp which will be held at Greynolds Park. The camp is located in the northeast section of the park and is ideally situated (highest point in Dade County) for out-door living. The Camp accomodates a limited number of boys, therefore early reservations will be advantageous. The counsellor staff is on the basis of one counsellor to five boys. Boys between the ages of 7 to 14 years are eligible for registration. The Rev. N. R. Davidson is the camp director, and applications for admission may be secured from him by writing the Camp Director, 1121 Avenue Andalusia or phone 4-5616.
Surprise package for newly-wed MR. and MRS. KENNETH W. DAVIDSON was the presence of the celebrated MARGARET O'BRIEN, diminutive movie star, who, like her hosts for the picture, was about to enplane for Havana, Cuba. As a wedding gift, the Davidsons will reside at a Rivo Alto Island home for the summer. He attends the University of Miami. —Vincent Crudele candid
BPW STATE PRESIDENT IS GUEST OF CORAL GABLES CLUB
Miss Sarah Creech, president of the Florida State Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs was a special guest at the first dinner meeting of the group, since the election of new officers, Tuesday at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Miss Dora Thomas, president, presided. Dr. Adele Hampton, new member of the group, and a veteran BPW former officer and charter president of the Dade Club, was the speaker. Dr. Hampton plans to attend the international meeting of BPW in Paris this summer.
WELFARE GROUP PLANS PICNIC
The welfare department of the Coral Gables Woman's Club, Mrs. W. F. Esslinger, chairman, will hold a swim-picnic lunch and bridge party Thursday, June 17 at "Chairwig Pines," the country home of Mrs. Walter Wigman on South Hardee Drive.
Attend Graduation
Mrs. and Mrs. M. Lewis and sons Frank and Vincent attended the graduation of their son and brother, M. Lewis, Jr., from Princeton University Monday at Princeton, N. J. The foresome will visit in New York before returning. Incidentally, Frank has just returned from Duke University, Durham, N. C.
Coco Plum Chairmen To Plan Year Book
Committee chairmen of Coco Plum Woman's Club will meet with their president, Mrs. C. Ernest Snyder, at a covered dish luncheon, at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the club house on Sunset Road, to discuss the choice of committee members and start work on the year book for the coming year. At the last business meeting of the year, Mrs. J. J. Miller was chosen to represent the Coco Plum Woman's Club at the National Federation convention in New York which starts June 23. Mrs. Miller was president of Coco Plum Club from 1939 to 1941.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Page of 2814 Granada Boulevard are leaving soon for their annual summer's stay at Oneida Lake, Syracuse, New York.
Dance Slated Tonight By Veterans' Group
The public has been invited to attend a dance which will be given this evening in the Coral Gables Woman's Club by Gables-Grove Post 18 and Airline Post 15 of the Amvets. Proceeds will go to the posts' welfare funds. Dancing will begin at 9 p.m. Rev. Roy Gilmour Pavy, pastor of the Coral Gables Congregational Church has recently been named chaplain of the local post and John Cicero, adjutant.
On Motor Trip
Mr. and Mrs. C. Stuart Clark, of 808 Alhambra Circle are leaving for the mountains of North Carolina. They plan on a leisure tour of two weeks in the region of The Blue Ridge and Great Smokies.
Linen Shop Opens On Miracle Mile
Another new shop joined the Coral Gables business fraternity this week with the opening of I. Davis, Linens at 248 Coral Way, in the Miracle Mile section. The shop, operated by Mr. and Mrs. I. B. Davis, is tastefully equipped with lime oak display pieces. Muted tropical colors are used throughout, with French gray and lime-green predominating. Smart leather counter chairs and gaily upholstered occasional pieces of wrought iron provide for the comfort of the shoppers. Mr. and Mrs. Davis have been active in the linen business for 15 years, travelling up and down the East Coast equipping the finest homes in the country with complete linen trousseaux. The shop will feature a com- plete line of linens, including bed, table, silks, embroidered pieces, raffia and linen sets, gift linens, bedspreads and drapes, infants' items and marine linens, especially designed for boat owners.
