by helen reynolds society editor Anne Clarke will never forget her birthdate. She was born on last Halloween and her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Victor E. Clarke of 2301 North Greenway Dr. Anne joins a sister, six-year old Lynn. Never mind, Anne; they may kid you for being born on Oct. 31, but that is a fixed date like Christmas. We know a girl, (she's married now) who was born on Christmas, and she said she never got a birthday present. * * * A Paris (France) postmarked letter from Mrs. Harold Foor Machlan, of 1008 E. Ponce de Leon Blvd., tells us that her husband, Dr. Harold Foor Machlan, has finished his novel, "Black Veils Over Paris," and they will be in Paris until Feb. 23, sailing then on the "France" for New York. They will return to Coral Gables about March 16. They left CG last October and were able to get the same apartment in Paris they had last winter when he began his novel, "Shopping Has Been Fun." She writes, "We go first to the 'boucherie,' then to the 'epicerie' etcetra, meeting these friendly people." Dr. Machlan started his novel in Paris and finished it in the Gables. A retired physician, he was in charge of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Coral Gables from 1946-1957. * * * It was nice talking to Ellen Taafe, now doing graduate work at her alma mater, Florida State University. We began writing about Ellen's party days in Coral Gables High School where she graduated, and also her work as a serious musical student of the violin. She visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward P. Taffe, 550 Jeronimo Dr., during the holiday and left Tuesday for Tallahassee. During the holidays, the Taffes' next door neighbors, the Lorin Coppocks, always go all out for holiday decorations. In their picture window facing the drive, Lorin moves his console organ and nightly, with all the lights on, plays carols, often accompanied by Ellen and her violin. Neighbors have been gathering outside for years and even motorists stop to sing and listen. Well it was back to the grind Tuesday for Ellen. The Coppocks took one day, Christmas, to spend with their married daughter and family, the Charles Wardens of Bradenton.
Sandra Jean Suarez Now Mrs. J. J. O'Day III
Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Suarez, of 10401 SW 62nd Ave., announce the marriage of their daughter, Sandra Jean, to John Joseph O'Day III. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. O'Day Jr., 6538 SW 60th St. With the blessing of his Holiness, Pope John, the bride and groom pledged their vows in a nuptial mass Saturday at the Church of the Epiphany in South Miami. The Rev. John O'Dowd officiated, assisted by Rev. Richard Hartnett of Tampa and the Rev. Thomas Clifford of the Aquinas Student Center, UM Coral Gables. The bride wore a white silk, peau de soie gown floor-length, embroidered in Alencon lace and beads; the gown designed and made by her mother. She carried a bouquet of Calla lilies. The seven bridesmaids and two flower girls wore matching floor-length gowns of emerald green satin and carried corsages of red chrysanthemums and Florida holly. A reception for 500 guests followed the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents.
