Their ‘I Do’ 60 Years Ago Today
MR. AND MRS. PAUL Froiland celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary today (Thursday). Paul Froiland of 1700 Granada Blvd. is mighty proud of his safe driving license. He's been driving since 1914 and he and his wife Grethe have traveled over most of the U.S. and Europe. Paul and Grethe are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary today, (Thursday), “Diamond” is the symbol. The couple were married in Boston soon after their arrival from Norway, and have lived in the Gables since 1934. They came here from Springfield, Mass., where Froiland was, and still is, in the manufacturing business. They are members of the Coral Gables Country Club, live within walking distance of the club and attend all of its functions. The Froilands are the parents of two, a son and a daughter. Their son, Ralph Froiland, and family, one son, Ralph Jr., live in Santiago, California. Their daughter, Ethel (Mrs. Garrison) Twing, and two boys reside in Long Meadows, Mass. Incidentally, grandson Paul Twing, is presently residing with his grandparents, while attending the University of Miami where he is a member of the freshman class. Paul has just finished his tour of duty with Submarines Atlantic Attack Fleet, Great Lakes Station.
Mrs. Gorman Wins Tuesday At Biltmore
There were 40 golfers out for the rounds Tuesday at the Biltmore Women's Golf Association and the tournament was “T & F” with 1⁄2 handicap, played in classes. In Class A, Mrs. Mike Gorman won with a 361⁄2. Mrs. Rose Berman was second with 381⁄2. In Class B, Mrs. Gertrude Weiner was first with 361⁄2; Mrs. Dorothy Wynhoff was second with 37. In Class C, Mrs. Helen Singer won with a 351⁄2; Mrs. Madeline Richer was second with 38.
Auto Inspection Can Be Hazardous Duty
Coral Gables' Auto Inspection Station proved to be a hazardous place Jan. 25 for Inspector Pryor D. Chason, 25, of 2619 SW 19th Ter. Chason was knocked against a table and wall by a car struck by another car that went out of control when the driver stepped on the gas instead of the brake. Chason was treated by Fireman Frank B. Chase and Robert R. Dymond at the scene and at Doctors' Hospital. The car that struck him was driven by Mary Hand, 45, 5200 Maggiore St., who sustained minor injuries. William Harry Eckman, 74, of 1339 Obispo Ave., whose car caused the accident when it lurched forward while being checked, was not injured.

PTA Sets Fund Fete Next Week
The Parent Teacher Association of the Coral Gables High School will hold its annual fund raising dinner in the school cafeteria next Thursday, the [?8th?]. Mrs. C. J. Stoker, 5750 La Luneta Ave., is chairman and co-chairman is Mrs. Mark L. Grossman. For those who wish, box dinners are arranged to take home. Students who attend the dinner may attend a free dance in the school gymnasium from 7 to 9 p.m. and music will be furnished by “The Prowlers.” Other members of the committee are Mrs. Earle C. Plano, Mrs. John Powell, Mrs. E. H. Bishop, Mrs. Tex Buice, Mrs. Donald Hoover and Mrs. Celia Kern. There are some 3,000 students in Coral Gables High, and approximately 2,450 members of its PTA.

Monument Money
Coral Gables is going to spend $1,250 to improve the monument at Cartagena Plaza. A semi-circular, landscaped area will surround the old shoes sculpture made famous by a Cartagena poet. Cartagena is the Gables' sister city in the People to People exchange program.
