Metro Asked For Study Of Intersection

Coral Gables is going to ask Metro to study the Granada Blvd.-Anastasia Blvd. intersection to determine if additional traffic controls are needed. One person has been killed and several severely injured in recent months there. The intersection is controlled by stop signs on the Anastasia side. Granada traffic was once required to stop for equally heavily travelled Anastasia which leads to the Veterans Hospital, Biltmore Golf Course, Church of the Little Flower, St. Theresa School and Coral Gables Congregational Church. But Granada links Tamiami Trail to Bird Rd. and is also heavily travelled.

Attends 17th Sales School

Bernard Litman, 9601 SW 62nd Ct., staff supervisor of the Walter M. Pierce agency for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Miami, has returned from his company's 17th school in sales management, held in Chicopee, Mass. Litman was among 21 general agents, district managers and staff supervisors who attended from 19 agencies in 13 states. Since its organization in 1948, the sales management school has instructed several hundred representatives of Massachusetts Mutual. All phases of sales management were covered during the one-week school, with emphasis on the selection and training of new sales personnel. Only Oregon and Georgia have more commercial forest land than Florida with 21,000,000 acres.

Good Will Entry Wins Top Award

Coral Gables swept the field to win the American Municipal Association's annual award for public relations competition with its People to People program entry. The city topped them all in a division which had the most competition. Competing with eities in the 25,000 to 100,000 eatagory, the People to People exchange program with Cartagena, Colombia, which was in itself a first, took the prize. The award will be made to Mayor John M. Montgomery Nov. 26 in Washington at the AMA's annual convention. The mayor received the news in a telegram Oct. 20. Coral Gables launched its cultural exchange program in 1958 after the way had been paved by the administration. While other municipalities throughout the country selected mostly European eities for their exchange program, Coral Gables was the first to select a Latin American city. Miami followed suit by picking another Colombian city.
