Official Census Figures Gables Is One Third Of Way To 100,000 Mark

Coral Gables has reached approximately the one-third mark in what some experts say will be an ultimate population of 100,000. Official figures released by the Bureau of the Census show a population of 34,793 for Coral Gables itself and 37,296 for what the Bureau terms the Coral Gables Division. The division includes areas related to Coral Gables but not within the city limits. Gables' Gain Coral Gables' gain since the special census of 1955 was 5583, and 26,544 more than the 8249 recorded in the 1940 census. During this same five-year period, South Miami has gained from 7600 to 9846, while the area of South Miami Division has 25,065. South Miami had only 2408 in 1940. West Miami, which had 5158 population in 1955 and was not listed in 1940, now has 5296 in the city proper and 24981 in the immediate area. Other surrounding areas, for which no comparisons were available, showed tremendous increases. The Kendall-Perrine Division has 33,087 population and the Perrine area 6424; Princeton-Goulds, 33,307; Cutler Ridge, 7005; Goulds, 5121. Sweetwater, off Tamiami Trail, has 645 residents. Westwood Lakes has 22,517.

There are also a large selection of schnitzels, including the famous Bavarian Pine Tree Inn pork schnitzel with mushrooms. American Menu The Bavarian Pine Tree Inn is also noted in this area for their American dishes. Entrees include roast young turkey with giblet gravy, whole squab chicken and roast prime ribs of beef au jus. On Sunday, the Pine Tree Inn serves delicious Long Island Ducklings with Swiss stuffing-truly a unique dish. Imported Beers and Wines Going tastily with the various meat dishes is the Holland Hieneken, and the German Lowenbrau and Wuerzburger Hofbrau, all served in frosted Pilsner glasses. "The Pine Tree Inn still has an ample supply of the 1959 Liebframilch Rhine Wine. This is the best, for it has been made from the finest grape crop in over 100 years," Mrs. Meyer declared. Banquet Room Recently the Bavarian Pine Tree Inn completed a new interior and exterior program. The exterior is a replica of buildings found in "old Germany." A huge banquet room is available for weddings, parties, etc. Bavarian Night Saturday, Jan. 7, the Bavarian Pine Tree Inn will feature the Bavarian Night. This is a night of fun and frolics of old German tradition. And as an added attraction, the world famous Dancing Shuplattiers will appear. Persons from all over the world including celebrities have enjoyed this festival in the past and are anxiously awaiting for this years, which promises to be bigger and better. Cruising Club Installs Officers

At the monthly meeting of the Dinner Key Cruising Club, the following new officers for 1961 were installed; commodore, Bob Erickson; vice commodore, Burt Probinski, and rear commodore, Kenneth S. Keyes Jr. Burgees were presented to these officers. Barney Daley, cruise chairman, reported that 10 boats participated in the Elliot Key cruise held during the Thanksgiving weekend. No cruise is planned for December because of the holidays, but members were advised to plan a weekend cruise for the middle of January. A plaque inscribed "Good Luck to Joe Geary" was presented to Dockmaster Joe Geary for his 10 years of service to yachting at the Dinner Key Marina. Joe blew out 10 candles on a cake especially prepared for him. The speaker was Gordon Dunn of the Miami Weather Bureau.

Permits Are Granted For Two Apartments

Permits have been issued for construction of two apartment buildings in Coral Gables. .... One, an 11-unit structure, will be constructed at 2150 Douglas Rd. by R. E. Couture for $61,000. The two-story CBS building was designed by Randolph F. Ware. Robert W. Bennett Jr., owner of the second six-unit apartment, costing $33,000, plans the building at 414 Valencia. H. L. Keck was the architect for the two-story building.

Cleve Allen Ranked As Top Underwriter

CLEVE ALLEN J. Cleve Allen, 3710 Alhambra Circle, has been awarded the Chartered Life Underwriters designation by the American College of Life Underwriters. This award has been made to only 9000 insurance men since 1927. This presentation is similar to a professional degree and can only be attained after meeting certain requirements of the American College. Among these is the passing of five examinations at college level. Allen is a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, a director of the Miami Association of Life Underwriters, secretary of the General Agents and Managers Association of Miami, a member of the Executive Committee of the Estate Planning Council of Southeast Florida, and vice chairman of Dade County Chapter, American Red Cross.

Driver Loses License For Three Months

A Southwest section man arrested in Coral Gables Nov. 21 and charged with reckless and drunk driving was fined a total of $325, received a 48-hour suspended jail sentence and lost his right to drive for three months Dec. 14 in Metro Court. Luis R. Black, 50, of 1820 SW 11th Ter., the defendant, was picked up on South Dixie Hwy. by Officer William Bennett, of the Coral Gables Police Department.
