Area PTA's Plan Variety Of Activities for Meeting
By EUNICE TOLL Correspondent Phone MO 1-2204 The Palmetto High School PTA program for Thursday (April 20) will feature Dr. William P. Albaugh, consulting psychologist in private practice in the southwest area. He will discuss with the membership problems of adolescence, understanding teenagers and how parents can best meet the needs of chil- [?en] when they reach this "age [?of] turmoil." Dr. Albaugh will use as the basis for group discussion a short film entitled "Age of Turmoil." The meeting will be held at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium. The Palmetto High School PTA proposed officers for the 1961-62 school year are Mrs. Louise Hill, president; Mrs. [?Jane] Allen, first vice president; Mrs. Hazel Duman, second vice president; Mrs. Shirley Newman, third vice president; Mrs. Gertrude Coulter, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Blanche Holiday, recording secretary; and Mrs. Margaret Fairchild, treasurer. PERRINE ELEMENTARY In celebration of the culmin- [?ation] of National Library Week, April 16 to 22 at Perrine Elementary School, a dual function will be held April 24, Monday, at 2:30 p.m. At a special library assembly in the auditorium, a personal greeting will be given by Mrs. Betty S. Lunnon, supervisor of library services, Dade County Board of Public In- [?str]uction, to thank and honor [?Mrs.] Robert W. Williams, a member of the Perrine PTA, for her international friendship mural painted on the south-west wall of the library. Gunnar Froman, sixth grader, and chairman of student librarians, and Mrs. Edgar Stone, chairman of mother librarians, will present Mrs. Williams with a "thank you" [?scro]ll. Mrs. Earl P. Bassett, librarian has enlisted the aid of 20 mother librarians to insure full-time library coverage during the school week. Mrs. Bassett says, "The cooperation of these mothers and students has helped to give Perrine Elementary School Library facilities and services comparable in some ways to many schools in the county [?as a wh]ole, fortunate enough to have one or more full-time librarians. "The delightful mural done by Mrs. Williams exemplifies, in a most remarkable way, the dedication of a special talent. The children using Perrine Elementary School Library may have for many years the inspiration of Mrs. Williams' international friendship mural for their reading and enjoyment of books. In such ways do parents contribute most effectively to their youngsters education and growth." All members of the Perrine Elementary PTA are encouraged to attend the dedication ceremonies which are scheduled April 24 at 2:30 p.m. FAIRLAWN ELEMENTARY At the regular meeting of Fairlawn Elementary School PTA, April 25 at 7:30 p.m., the emphasis will be on health. Two area dentists will address the membership. Election of officers will be held. DADE DEMONSTRATION ELEMENTARY The film "A Preface to a Life" will be shown at the Dade Demonstration Elementary School PTA meeting, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafetorium. A representative from the Mental Health Society will be on hand to lead a discussion following the film. PALMETTO ELEMENTARY The Miami Ballet Association presented a ballet at Palmetto High School last Saturday, April 15, for the benefit of Palmetto Elementary School. Profits will be used for a Palmetto Elementary School playground shelter. A $225 gross profit was made.
