First Sabbath Service For New Temple Scheduled August. 4

An overflow crowd greeted Rabbi Morris A. Skop and Cantor Herman K. Gottlieb at the Founder's Evening of the new Temple Beth Shirah in Sunniland July 9. Tribute was paid to the founder of the reconstructionist movement in American Jewish life, Dr. Mordecai Kaplan on his 80th birthday. Announcements were made of the presentation of the first Torah Scroll and the contemplated purchase of land for the future sanctuary building. The first Sabbath service will be held on Friday August 4 at 8:15 p.m. It will be in Sunniland Hall, 11539 So. Dixie Hwy. At August 5 service at 10:30 a.m. Rabbi Skop will introduce the prayer book published by the Reconstructionist Foundation. It includes many of the traditional Jewish prayers as well as meditations keyed to modern Jewish thought and philosophy. The ritual will be chanted by Cantor Gottlieb with Stephen Kessler at the organ. Kiddush will follow the service.
