Cystic Fibrosis Workers In Southwest Named for Sept. 23 Drive Opening
Volunteers are sought to participate in a fund drive for the National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation Sept. 23 In the Coral Gables-South Miami - South Dade area. The door-to-door drive is headed this year by Dr. J. E. Carlson. "We are appealing to every person who can possibly spare the time to volunteer for this drive," said Dr. Carlson. "Thousands of children will be born this year with cystic fibrosis. Unless we raise the money for necessary research half of them will die before they reach school age," said Dr. Carlson. Cystic fibrosis is a disease which congests the lungs and blocks breathing. It causes a high mortality rate among its victims. Special equipment and drugs are needed to help the victims. West Miami Lions Want You Sunday
West Miami Lions Club will sponsor a family picnic and carnival from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the SW 62nd Avenue Recreation Center. Barbecue plates, ice cream and cold drinks will be available. Profits go to the club's charitable and welfare projects, according to James W. Schneider, chairman.
