Southwest High Bids To Make Work Count
Southwest Miami High School is engaged in a number of National Education Week activities which will be continued with deeper emphasis. Brief pointers on education are being broadcast to the 2,946 students each morning by members of the debate team. Students of Honors 11th grade English and creative writing classes write and present vignettes of American patriots or national holidays over radio station WVCG, Coral Gables. Social Studies classes began a study of local government which will include the effects of state and national government on the community in future weeks. A new plan by which 11th and 12th grade English students assist members of the 10th grade TV English classes is under way directed by Bane Lightfoot. Student teaching assistants meet with small groups of sophomores for study twice a week. The latter, meeting on a voluntary basis, study grammar, theme criticism and oral reporting.
