Youngsters to bowl at Bird for MD
Kids will have the opportunity to bowl for charity in six squads being formed for the Muscular Dystrophy Bowling Tournament. The tournament will be held at Bird Bowl, 9275 Bird Rd., on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21 and 22 and again on Aug. 28 and 29. Gerald E. Oneto, Bird Bowl junior tournament director and a member of the Southwest Miami Jaycees, said the tournament is open to people from ages 7 to 21. "We are hoping to get as many as 1,000 kids out here for the tournament and raise about $10,000 for Muscular Dystrophy," he said. Sponsor sheets for the tournament are available at all bowling establishments in South Dade. The cost of bowling - $1.80 for three games - will be deducted from the amount collected and listed on the sponsor sheets and the remainder will go to M.D. For further information, call Oneto at 221-1221.

Soccer coach Les Nagy has been named head soccer coach at Miami Dade Community College South. Nagy previously served as head of the South Miami High School soccer program. Nagy lives at 6475 SW 34th St. Volleyball The Greater Miami Athletic Conference will conduct a training clinic for all persons interested in officiating at high school volleyball games. Classes will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays for two weeks, starting Aug. 25, in Room 227 of Miami Springs High School. All classes will last from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For details, call 350-3669 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. SM Football The South Miami Pop Warner 1976 football and cheerleading program will be open for registration the first week of September. Registration will be held at 6 p.m. every weekday at South Miami Junior High School and at City Hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The South Miami Junior Athletic League will hold a parents, coaches and participants meeting Monday, Aug. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the South Miami Junior High auditorium. Registration is free to South Miami residents and $15 for all others. Coaches will be Paul Kilcoyne, Al Hannak, Jerry Graves, Eddie Vasquez, Bill Kimmel and Kevin Hand. All children will participate in the annual Turkey Bowl on Nov. 27. Athletic director Paul Warner, former head track coach at Palmetto High School, has been appointed Athletic Director of Miami Christian School.
