Country Club Is Host Tonight For Royal Poinciana Ball; Queen and Court On Parade
Royal Poinciana blooms will be used abundantly in decorations for the annual Royal Poinciana Queen's Ball which will take place tonight at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Miss Margaret Blue, the queen and her retinue will arrive promptly to touch off the grand march, at 9:30 o'clock with the ladies and knights of the court in attendance. Under the direction of Mrs. Beatrice Hunt, general chairman, Cy Washburn, and his orchestra will play and golden voiced Mary Davies, well known soprano, will sing a group of festive numbers. The Queen and her court will occupy a ring side table with places reserved for 50. Among her guests will be Mayor W. Keith Phillips and Mrs. Phillips, Thomas C. Mayes, immediate past mayor and Mrs. Mayes, County Commissioner Charles S. Crandon and Mrs. Crandon and all other city and county officials, and their wives. Occupying the Poinciana table will be Mrs. George Corrigan, general chairman of decorations; Mrs. William Hilles, chairman of the ball; and the members of their committees and their husbands; also Mr. and Mrs. William Cox, Dr. and Mrs. Curtis Haggard, Mrs. J. Guy Finn and others. Making up tables of 50 or more

Among early June parties is the coffee Mrs. S. M. Greene will give from 11 to 1 June 11 at her home, 1036 South Greenway Drive . . . Mrs. L. F. Ayars of 3041 Oak Avenue, Coconut Grove will hold "open house" from 2 until 6 Sunday honoring her mother Mrs. E. W. Ayars who is celebrating her 84th birthday anniversary. Mrs. Ayars widow of Dr. Ayars a wellknown physician in Coconut Grove, is among pioneers to this section. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. McEnany and daughter Emma Louise left Sunday for Raleigh, N.C., where they will attend the marriage of their son and brother Richard McEnany and Ann Evelyn Wade which will take place Saturday. Miss McEnany will entertain for her future sister-in-law today with a crystal shower luncheon at the Sir Walter Hotel. * * * Miss Rosemary Glomb of Old Cutler Road, was named president of the Spinsters Club at the annual meeting and buffet supper held Wednesday at the home of Miss Jean Drane, retiring president. Miss Peggy Wilson was elected vice president; Miss Barbara Findley, secretary and Miss Jean Lewis treasurer. Because Miss Lewis is away for the summer, Miss Cornelia Jones was made treasurer, pro-tem. The club will announce a summer party for July. * * * 'Tis said, the police department knoweth all, yet two members of the department celebrated their wedding date anniversaries yesterday each unaware of the other. Captain Lou Reeves and Mrs. Reeves marked their 20th year of married bliss while Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gouvlea celebrated the "paper" date (one year). * * * Mrs. Wade Livingston Street is at present enjoying a house party at Fishkell, N.Y. the guest of Wellesley Cecil Gage and his sister Mrs. Thomas P. Spencer. Others guests at the 25 acre estate on the Hudson are Mrs. Maude Preston Doughty of Coral Gables and Albert G. Rich. Mrs. Street will return this week to New York City for an indefinite stay. * * * Mrs. R. L. Ricketts, 4500 S.W. 14th street left yesterday for Ann Arbor, Mich., to attend the graduation of her daughter Elizabeth Ann Ricketts. Miss Ricketts will receive her degree in Dental Hygiene, University of Michigan, June 7. They will return Monday to their Coral Gables home. * * * Mrs. L. D. Murphy and son Jack motored to Barnesville, Ga. to attend the graduation of their son and brother Pat from Gordon Military College last week. Pat plans to attend the University of Miami next fall. Jack is a junior (next year) at Ponce. * * * Mr. and Mrs. William L. Huntley are vacationing at Daytona beach, guests at the Ridgewood Hotel. Their son William L. Jr., Bill to his friends, is visiting his room mate (at Notre Dame University) Jimmy Connors at his home in St. Louis, Mo. They will both motor down to Coral Gables in Bill's new Mercury and Jimmy will vacation here for some time. are Mr. and Mrs. George C. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Greene, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Mer-riam, Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Davies and others. Panhellenic's annual tea complimenting the June girl graduates of the local high schools will take place June 14th at the Coral Gables Woman's Club.
MRS. GLEASON TO REPRESENT KAPPA DELTAS
Mrs. G. Roy Gleason will represent the alumnae club of Kappa Delta Sorority at the Kappa Delta National Jubilee convention June 26-30 at the Cavalier Hotel, Virginia Beach, Virginia. The convention will celebrate the golden anniversary of the sorority. Miss Patricia Gleason, an active member of the sorority at the University of Georgia will accompany her mother to the Virginia city. Kappa Delta's new president Mrs. J. C. Parrish presided at her first meeting, since election, when she entertained the group last night at her home, 424 Miller Dr.
Coco Plum Club Women to Play Summer Bridge to Raise Pledge
With enthusiasm, the women of Coco Plum Woman's Club are starting their campaign to raise a thousand dollars, pledged by Mrs. Frederick Ravlin, past president, for the Childrens Hospital fund. The fund raising starts with a coffee bridge at the Coco Plum Woman's Club, Wednesday, June 11, at 10 a.m. Preparations have been made for three hundred and fifty bridge enthusiasts. Fruit juice sweet rolls and coffee will be served at 10 o'clock and prizes will be given early to effect an uninterrupted session of bridge. The many valuable prizes, with donors names attached, will be displayed Tuesday as well as Wednesday. To help augment the fund, the Quilters Club of South Miami, a group of women who meet in the Coco Plum club house, and who have been meeting for the past twelve years in the service of welfare, have donated a beautiful hand made quilt to the cause. This quilt will be on display. Mrs. W. Scott Jones chairman, has as her committee, Mrs. C. Ernest Snyder, president; Mrs. Tyler Bliss, Mrs. Leonard Markman, Mrs. Edward C. Graham, Mrs. J. Bruce Hayden, Mrs. A. T. Pendray, Mrs. Joseph Young, Mrs. R. M. Munroe, Mrs. Robert Dorn, Mrs. D. A. McDougal, Miss Violet McDougal, Mrs. John Bostwick. Tickets will be sold at the door. Gables Juniors Special Guests Members of the Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club were special guests at the closing exercises of the Coral Gables Kindergarten held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the school. The club sponsored the reestablishment of the kindergarten in the Elementary school building.
