HAD TO BE SURE
She was dripping in sables, gems, etc., as she strutted into the Ritzy New York restaurant. She waved away all the waiters, etc. "Bring me the head waiter!" she commanded. "I want some caviarhh. It must be imported caviarhh! Are you sure it is genuine imported? Be sure." The pompous head waiter assured her it was. "Well, I certainly hope so." she said, "because I wouldn't know the difference!"

Sales Volume Tops Record In Florida
A retail sales volume of $1,528,-629,000 in Florida last year stood 22.7 per cent higher than in 1945 according to final estimates, the research and industrial division of the Florida State Chamber of Commerce stated yesterday in its weekly business review. "National retail sales volume, 1946 over 1945, increased 30 per cent, appreciably above the Florida level. This fact is accounted for by successive annual increases in Florida, far greater than national average gains, during the war years. A comparison with 1939 bears out this contention. From that date Florida retail sales volume increased 148 per cent. The comparable national figure was 129. Higher Savings Here "Retail sales in the State made up 61 per cent of the income of individuals. The national per cent was one point lower, indicating slightly higher savings in Florida," the researchers commented. "The county breakdown of retail sales volume follows closely the rank reported for gross income: Dade County led with a total sales volume of $340,177,000; Duval with $194,263,000 and Hillsborough with $153,507,000 held second and third places. Pinellas Third "The next ten Florida counties, in order, were: Pinellas $106,525,-000; Palm Beach $87,561,000; Orange $78,552,000; Polk $66,510,-000; Volusia $47,161,000; Escambia $46,454,000; Broward $39,114,-000; Bay $30,411,000; Alachua $23,-965,000 and Leon $21,392,000 "These estimates, prepared and copyrighted by Sales Management Magazine, the only source of this information, by counties, are slightly below estimates released in December of last year and based on Census Bureau reports, the latter reports covering the metropolitan areas of the State primarily," the review concluded.

New Courses Offered by Riddle College
New classes in inter-American affairs, a 16-week course designed to teach Portuguese and orient students in South American background, will start June 9 at Riddle Inter-American College, Arthur E. Boudreau, director, announced today. The course has attracted students interested in inter-American careers both here and in South America, and it is expected that it will play a part in establishing better understanding between the Americas, Boudreau said. Through intensified training methods, students are taught conversational Portuguese covering, in 16 weeks, the equivalent of three years of college work in the subject. They also are given background work in South American customs, geography, history and industrial development. Graduates of the course have already been placed with companies in foreign service, with one company, Meme Grande Oil Co., of Caracas, Venezuela, alone employing six former students. On a recent trip to Coral Gables, D. R. Kowalski, industrial relations counsellor for the company, contacted the college for additional personnel.
