On Tuesday evening the Philharmonic Society of Greater Miami presents its twelfth informal concert at the Country Club of Coral Gables, featuring again as soloist Miss Cecilia Duenas, coloratura soprano. Miss Duenas, a native of the republic of Colombia, was soloist at the April concert, having been received with great acclaim. Miss Duenas will sing "The Queen of the Night," from "The Magic Flute," by Mozart, and the recitative and stro-phes from Delibes' opera "Lakme" —"Pourqoui dans les grands bois." Riddle Foundation for orchestral composition—will be the "Danse Espagnole, Opus 5" by Dimitri Shmuklovsky. Shmuklovsky, now a resident of Miami, is a distinguished teacher and performer on the contrabass, having been a pupil of Serge Koussevitzky. In this country he was principal bass with Rodzinsky and the Cleveland Symphony, and for many years principal bass with the Chicago Civic Opera. He has written many standard text-books on the instrument. Riddle College Summer School Opens Monday
Summer semester at Riddle Inter-American College will start Monday and continue through Oct. 11, Arthur E. Boudreau, director, said, in announcing that registration for the various courses is under way this week. Many of the students already enrolled are veterans who are anxious to complete their education as soon as possible, along with June high school graduates who want to receive their college degrees more quickly, he stated. A preference for the summer training of employees in languages has been indicated by Greater Miami business firms, who can best spare their workers during the seasonal slack and vacation period, Boudreau said. The summer curriculu at the institution includes standard college courses, career courses and an intensified 16-week course on South American languages and commerical practices.

Vandal Strikes Three Times In Gables
The street light in front of the new residence at 3900 Segovia St. was ordered illuminated Tuesday night after Harry W. Barton, builder, reported that a vandal who marred it several weeks ago had twice returned and committed further acts of vandalism. Barton irately interpreted commissioner proceedings to gain attention for his plea. He told the commission that the intruder, who left a note charging him with profiteering while others fought in the war, had invaded his house while he was undergoing treatment in the Nautilis Hospital for war wounds. Safety Director William G. Kimbrough stated that police were checking frequently on the house but had received no reports of the later entries by the vandal who signed himself "Bitter Spook." No fingerprints were found on the typed note or in the house. The light will remain lit until the house is occupied.

Volunteer Workers Aid Youth Center Programs
The staff of the Youth Center has been augmented for the summer by several volunteer workers. Miss Betty Ward, program director of the Center, stated that these people are giving freely of their time and abilities and have greatly eased the load of the regular workers. Helping out with Sports and also teaching badminton, swimming, and tumbling is Joe Clemente. Joe is taking his Masters Degree at the University of Miami. Aids Beckman Pop Logan has been helping Ed Beckman for the past year with boxing. Pop used to be boxing instructor at West Point when General MacArthur was there. Harry Wylie who used to work at the Fleischer Studios, has started a class in cartooning. Harry is, at present, teaching at the University of Miami. He urges those attending his classes to bring a pad and pencil. Handicraft Teacher Another handicraft teacher is Francis Rosendale of the Rainbow Knit Shop. Those attending this class should bring needles and yarn. Three Youth Center girls, Bobby Jean Smith, Shirley Brown, and Sue Graham had their pictures taken by Acme News Pictures in color. The girls were modeling hand-painted bathing suits at the MacFadden Deauville. Jacqueline May, who is featured on the WBAY broadcasts from the Youth Center will be heard on the Rambler program the first week in July. Tom Smith, The Rambler, will be on vacation then, but he has cut a record of the show that will be played at that time. Jacqueline is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles May of 836 Columbus Boulevard.

Carlisle Seeks Office Of State Treasurer
R. T. "Doc" Carlisle, Jacksonville business man, today announced his candidacy for the office of state treasurer, subject to the Democratic primaries next spring. He was an attache of the office from 1941-45. Carlisle said he proposes to seek the office on a definite, constructive platform which pledges changes in the operation of the office which he thinks will be beneficial to the people of the state. "This office would be streamlined under my administration," said Carlisle, "and I would immediately advocate these changes: "1. Separation of the office from the department handling insurance matters, as a state insurance commissioner with all the responsibilities of that office, should be elected by the people and be responsible to them. "2. Regular routine fire inspections by the state fire marshal's division, a department of this office, to reduce fire hazards." Carlisle pointed out that his three and one-half years association with the office has given him an insight into its operation and caused him to be familiar with its workings and duties. Owner of the Stockton Street Pharmacy, Carlisle is a native Floridian, having been born in Marion County. He moved here from Ocala before World War I and later enlisted in the Merchant Marine. He is a member of the Woodmen of the World, Downtown Lion's Club, N. E. Florida Pharmaceutical and Florida State Pharmaceutical Associations and other fraternal and civic organizations. He said he plans a state-wide campaign to familiarize the people with his plans for conduct of the office.
