By HELEN REYNOLDS, Society Editor When Mr. and Mrs. Michael Henry Grant complete their automobile trip on which they are embarking this week-end, they will arrive in the Land of Lakes, Wisconsin, where they expect to spend the summer and to do some big game fishing. MRS. GRANT -Pilkington Photo Mrs. Grant, the former Mrs. Corine Pearlstone of 1109 Avenue Malaga, is no novice at big game fishing. She holds a tarpon record of 171 pounds with light tackle, also sail and other game fish. Her husband held a record for six consecutive years for the largest small-mouth black bass caught in the upper peninsula of Michigan, before going into the service of his country, where he served as a Navy supply commander. However, each is prowd of the other's prowess as a fisherman and for Mrs. Grant it will be a new and exciting experience, fishing in lake and stream in place of bay and ocean. Thirty of Mrs. Grant's friends gave her a surprise going away birthday party and presented her with many gifts, recently, among them a special custom-built fly rod and reel, a complete outfit for her Northern fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Grant were wed last January 16, in the beautiful gardens of Mrs. Grant's home, surrounded by a host of her Coral Gables friends. Prominent socially and a club leader, Mrs. Grant is also a member of the First Christian Church and her home and gardens have been loaned many times for parties for the young people of that faith. * * * A round of parties have feted Miss Gretchen Eberhart since her arrival from Valdosta, Ga., for a visit with Miss Patricia McDerment, daughter of Mrs. R. J. Railsbach of 826 Avenue Ortega. Mrs. Railsbach is giving a hay ride tonight for about 30 of the high school set for the visitor and yesterday Miss Mary McGee of Coconut Grove entertained for her. * * * Virginia Graham (Mrs. Francis S.) has no fear of Friday the 13th. The one just past happened to be her birthday, so she celebrated the hoo-doo day by inviting 16 in for dinner and bridge. Black cats and ladders helped create the atmosphere for the baleful date, but a lucious baked ham dispelled any doubts about a good dinner and almost everyone won prizes. * * * Piece de resistance at Mrs. John Clarke Wynn's bridge luncheon Tuesday at the Riviera Country Club was the three-layer, home-made, fresh coconut cake which the hostess made and gave as the bridge prize and which Mrs. Pierre Jones won. Mrs. Jones had compassion on her seven fellow bridge players, however, and cut her prize for their benefit. The party was the first in a series Mrs. Wynn plans at the club. * * * If we were to name the ten best dressed women in Coral Gables we are sure we would name Mrs. William Cox, president of the Coral Gables Woman's Club as one right bang up at the top. Possessing a slim figure with a flair for the right kind of clothes at the right time, makes this club president a leader in styles as well as parliamentary rules. Boarding the club "special" tomorrow for New York City to attend the National Convention, Mrs. Cox is wearing some of the new sheer black nylons, a black and aqua crepe suit, black patent leather hat, bag and shoes and we'll wager she'll look chic. A few pretty black sheers are in her suitcase, too, which will help out in black-clothes-conscious New York. In New York, Mrs. Cox will be met by her other three Coral Gables delegates: Mrs. Howard Sulliavan, who will come down from her summer home in New York; Mrs. Frederick B. Kopf, summering in New Jersey, and Mrs. W. E. Richey whose summer home is in Cleveland, O. From the Junior department of the club will be Mrs. Curtis Haggard, president, and Mrs. Dave Bosworth, delegate. * * * Mrs. Maylen Newby Peirce entertained at an open house Sunday afternoon for her youngest son, Staples, who was graduated last week from Staunton Military Academy ... Walter, Jr., who arrived home Sunday from Georgia Tech, was also on hand for the festivities to which about 40 were bidden. Mrs. Peirce's eldest son, Walter, who was one of the groomsmen at the Weiland-Hoehl wedding June 6th and who returned to the University of Virginia for his finals, will arrive home next week. * * * Pre-post nuptial parties for bride-elect Miss Helen Dent Giersch have kept this pretty blonde girl busy right up to the day of her wedding to William Reynolds Wilson III, at half after five o'clock tomorrow at the First Methodist Church. Miss Helen Stevens' coffee and Miss Ruth Sullivan's coco-cola party were dates of Tuesday and Wednesday. Tonight the bride-elect's sister, Mrs. Lyman Watt, nee Elizabeth Giersch, will be hostess for the rehearsal dinner.
Performing the traditional rite, cutting the wedding cake, are MR. and MRS. HENRY WILLIAM GRANT following their marriage June 3. Vows were exchanged in a simple afternoon home ceremony in the bride's parents home, Mr. and Mrs. Maury Goyer Taylor, of 4374 S. W. 16th Street. Mrs. Grant is the former Miss Florence Goyer Taylor. The Rev. Robert Marshburn read the service and Miss Frances Tarboux played a program of nuptial music on the piano. Miss La Mar McKey and William Taylor, brother of the bride, were the attendants. The couple will reside at 2328 S. W. 18th Street. -Thornton Photo
AUXILIARY SETS MEETING DATE
The next meeting of the Coral Gables American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 98, will be held Wednesday, June 25th, promptly at 8:00 p.m. Due to the bad weather and poor attendance at the last meeting, the Flag Day Observance program was postponed until this Wednesday. After a short business meeting, Mrs. C. E. Waldron, American chairman, will present her postponed program. At 9:30 p.m., after the Auxiliary meeting, and in response to popular demand, the Post will have its scheduled dance. The dance is open to legionnaires, auxiliary members and guests. If successful, the dances will continue at regular intervals. Doc Martin's Penn Staters will furnish the music. Ladies are admitted free - the tax for men will be $1.00. The dance is informal, but post members will please wear their legion caps.
Odilio Diaz Home
Mr. and Mrs. Odilio A. Diaz of 532 Avenue Navarre, spent a very pleasant week inspecting Marmion Academy at Aurora, Ill., where they journeyed to pick up their son Odilio, a student, in the academy. Odilio, Jr., a graduate of St. Theresa's was a first president of the Coral Gables Youth Center. His friends will be glad to know he is home for the summer.
