Miss Jackie Jones Entertains With Buffet Supper At Home; / Other Student Interests Cited
Just home from Florida State, Miss Jackie Jones entertained 18 close friends and their dates with a buffet supper at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pierre Jones, 318 Avenue Mendoza, preceding the regular club dance at the Country Club Saturday night. Among out-of-town guests was Fred Gard, of Daytona Beach, also a student at Florida State. Mrs. Edward R. Treat is planning two or three parties for her granddaughter, Miss Gloria Shumaker, who is arriving today from Indianapolis, Ind., for a month's visit as her guest. A buffet supper at the Country Club, followed by dancing will be the first party for Gloria. Mrs. Treat will also give a "coke" party at her apartment, 1100 Brickell avenue for the young college set. She plans to motor back with Gloria to spend the summer in Indianapolis. It seemed like a "United Nations" meeting at the McGregor Smiths when McGregor, Jr., just home from the University of Tennessee, brought two members of the University swim team home with him as house guests. Suhn Beller, of Istanbul, and Howard Silva, Russian brought many an interesting item of conversation to college boys and girls gathered at the Smith home. Incidentally McGregor, Jr., is captain of his team swim this year. Bruce Chase, who graduated from Duke University with a degree in engineering left yesterday for Winston-Salem, N. C., where he has accepted a position as assistant engineer in the industrial engineering division of the Western Electric Radio Shops. Bruce, home for about two weeks, will be taking a grand Florida tan back with him to North Carolina. Mrs. C. D. Arnold and her daughter, Miss Patricia "Peppie" Arnold, are leaving in about ten days for several weeks of travel in Maine, New Hampshire and Cape Cod. On their return Mrs. Arnold plans a party for Peppie before she returned to William and Mary College, Williamsburg, Va., for her second year. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold's son Jeffrey will attend camp Eastern in Connecticut and will leave tomorrow accompanied by his maternal grandmother. Both Jack and Fritz Gale are back with their parents, Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gale, 928 Avenue Algaringo, although Fritz has now returned to Gainesville to take summer courses at the University of Florida, where he is a regular student. Jack, who enters his junior year in the fall at Ohio Wesleyan, is attending summer school at the University for brush-up work. A perfect "surprise" awaited Miss Jean Mixon, Florida State, and her brother, W. T. Mixson, Jr., Temple University, Philadelphia, when they arrived home Saturday—a brand new home at 5900 Granada Boulevard. When Mr. and Mrs. Mixson found possession of their new home coincided with the arrival of Jean and "Mickey," Jr., they decided to have the two meet in Jacksonville, arrive home on the same train, be met and driven to the new home, furnished and with dinner waiting.
