Gables Pan-Am Stewardess In Chicago Golf Queen
Chicago hasn't forgotten dark-haired, green-eyed Constance Georgeson, who left her native city a year and a half ago to see the world as a Miami-based stewardess for Pan American World Airways. Miss Georgeson has been named queen of the Chicago Victory Golf Tournament at Westward Ho Country Club June 26-29. The tournament is a benefit affair for disabled veterans. The fact that Miss Georgeson was formerly employed by the Chicago District Golf Association may have had something to do with her selection, but the honor is no novelty. When her clipper carried a group of Guatemalan golfers to Panama for the Central American tournament, she was named queen of the team. The airways-fairways queen lives at 3518 Anderson Road, Coral Gables. P. S.-Don't mention it in Chicago, but Miss Georgeson prefers tennis to golf!
Dividend Is Declared By Gables Federal
A dividend at the rate of 21⁄2 per cent per annum, payable July 1 for the six months period ending June 30, 1947 was announced today by George B. Caster, president of the Coral Gables Federal Savings and Loan Association. In announcing the dividend Caster stated that the dividend rate has never been less than 21⁄2 per cent per annum since the organization of the Association in 1934 and that approximately $500,000 has been paid out in dividends. Assets as of June 30 are in excess of six and one half million dollars, a gain of nearly $2,000,000 since July 1 of last year, he reported. "The purpose of the Association as outlined by the federal charter are to promote thrift and saving by providing a convenient and safe method for people to save and invest money and to provide for the sound and economical financing of homes," Caster stated. Over 2,600 persons have savings accounts with the Association.

Bubble Gum Danger Cited By Health Board
Innocent appearing bubble gum may not be as innocent as it seems, according to a report received by the Florida State Board of Health this week. The Federal Food and Drug Administration has advised the State Board of Health that a number of the "younger generation" in several states, ardent users of the rubbery substance, has suffered ill affects from the chewing and blowing of various brands of bubble gum. However, to date, no such cases have been reported to the Florida State health agency. According to the report, certain brands of gum have caused harmful symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sort throat, sore mouth, diarrhea and headaches among youngsters. Louisiana, Alabama, North and South Carolina have reported occurrence of such incidents while two deaths in North Carolina were thought to have been caused by bubble gum. The most probable cause of skin rashes as a result of bubbles popping in the face, is the use of synthetic compounds or resins, or abietic acid in its manufacture, declares the food and drug administration. If the injury is a stomach or intestinal injury, it may be due to other ingredients such as flavoring in the gum.

Two Attempts At Burglary Are Foiled
Nook Bar Owner Removes Door Handle | Two unsuccessful burglary attempts were reported to Coral Gables Police this week. The first was reported last Friday by J. W. Keck, 2520 San Domingo Street, who informed police that someone had entered his house but nothing was missing or disturbed. The thief, or thieves, had torn a hole in the screen around his porch large enough for a small boy to enter. Entrance to the house was gained by breaking a pane of glass in the inside door and unlocking it. The foresight of Mr. Charles Fausz, owner of the Nook Bar, 227 Avenue Minorca, stymied an attempted burglary of his bar Monday night. Someone used a glass cutter on one of the windows and tore tore the screen. However, they could not open the window because Fausz had removed the handle and the window can not be opened without the handle. No fingerprints were found.

Approximately 35 Kiwanians are expected to make the trip. In addition to watching the round-up, Kiwanians have been invited to take part in steer riding and roping contests if they so desire. The ranch is owned by Dr. Arthur Weiland, a member of the club. Speaker for Tuesday was Dr. John Henry Clouse, dean of the Engineering School at the University of Miami who explained the theory behind the atomic bomb. Jim Moore was program chairman.
Bare Feet Invitation To Infection
Going barefoot in this hot weather feels good for lots of youngsters and adults too, but it can lead to serious trouble, according to a warning issued this week by the Florida State Board of Health. A skin disease called "creeping eruption" or larva, migrans is very prevalent in Florida, declares Dr. Edwin Riley, epidemiologist, especially in hot weather, when folks are inclined to shed their shoes and, when cats and dogs are allowed more freedom to roam. Cats and dogs enter the picture, pointed out Dr. Riley, because of a hookworm they have which passes its eggs into the feces of the animals. These eggs, when they develop on the ground and come in contact with human skin, can cause an irritating skin condition. When the worm enters the skin, usually through the feet or hands, it causes intense itching and, within a period of days, a little curved elevation can be seen, indicating the course the worm takes as it wanders around under the skin. Dr. Riley stressed that if this condition is not treated, it may become secondarily infected and lead to a very serious illness. So you, who are in the habit of going without footwear, or, digging barehanded in your garden, should keep a sharp lookout for any evidences of creeping eruption. Consult your physician if you notice symptoms of the disease.
