By HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR The college crowd will not be discussing credits, when they gather this morning at 11 o'clock at the home of Miss Jean Mixson, 5900 Granada Boulevard for a coca-cola party for it's summee and credits and cuts will be taboo. Jean will honor Marge and Joan Kelly, who are down from Philadelphia the guests of their aunt, Mrs. H. Owens Jones of 1010 Hardee Road. About 50 girls have been bidden. Jean attends Florida State University and will enter her sophomore year next fall. * * * Continuing the round of parties being given for Gloria Schumaker, who is here from Indianapolis, Ind., the guest of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Treat, 1100 Brickell Avenue, Miss Jackie Jones will entertain at a coca-cola party Tuesday between the hours of 11 and 1. Sharing honors with Miss Schumaker will be Betty Patterson house guest of Miss Jeanne DuPree of Miami Beach. Betty and Jeanne are classmates at Florida State University with Jackie and Betty lives in Tallahassee. Helen Johnson's beach party last Thursday honoring Gloria was followed by a buffet supper at her home in Coral Gables. Invited to meet Gloria were Thelma Chinners, Betty Lou Smith, Nancy Kaye, Jeanne Lamper, Frances Martin and Jean Snyder. * * * Mrs. Armer E. White and sons, Edwin, Hal and Billie (Pilkington photo) are vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina. Mrs. White and Billie four, are at Sunset Farms, Whittier while Edwin 13 and Hal 11 are at Laughling Owl camp. * * * The Whites recently sold their home at 809 Avenue Catalina, and Mr. White plans to have another Coral Gables home ready for his family when they return. Mrs. White is the former Evelyn Fowler of Coral Gables. * * * Tears are being shed equally by the David D. Peenes and their Coral Gables friends because the Peenes are leaving to make their future home in Toronto, Canada. Mr. (Please Turn to Page Ten)

UNIVERSITY WOMAN'S CLUB SETS JULY DATES FOR MEETINGS

Interest groups of the University of Miami Woman's Club have planned a busy month Wednesday, July 16, Mrs. Robert Williams, of 2309 S. W. 60th Avenue, will be hostess at 8 p.m. for the child study group. Mrs. Roy Woodward will discuss the topic "Personality gets an Early Start." The study program outlined in the Parents Magazine, together with other references, has been the basis for these discussions during the year. Miss Mary B. Merritt, dean of women at the University, will be the reviewer when the book review group meets at 8 p.m. July 22 at the home of Mrs. Wade P. Young, 820 N. W. 15th Court. Mrs. Julian Corrigan and Mrs. Donald Cook will entertain the afternoon bridge group at dessert at 1:30 p.m. July 24 at Mrs. Cook's home, 5820 S. W. 31st Street. The evening bridge players will meet at 8 p.m. on the same date at the home of Mrs. Nathan Shappe, 7337 S. W. 53rd Avenue, Mrs. Patricia F. Olney is co-hostess with Mrs. Shappe. Tuesday of this week the "Tongue and Needle" group met for a dessert party at the home of Mrs. Bertha Steinhoff, 2669 Poinciana Avenue. All types of sewing from children's clothes to needlepoint occupy the members of this group.

MRS. BROKING GETS DAR POST

Mrs. Gilbert Broking, regent of the Coral Gables Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, has been signally honored by the National Board. She has been appointed vice chairman of the southeastern division, motion picture committee of the D.A.R. and will serve for three years. Mrs. Roscoe C. O'Byrne, president general, made the appointment. The purpose of the committee, which serves eight southeastern states, is to enlist efficient national interest in better films and for more educational pictures along historical lines, which the committee preserves for posterity. Mrs. Broking is especially interested in the auto-visual pictures as aid to school children. She was chairman of this project sponsored by the P.-T.A at Ponce de Leon High school last year.

Mary Helm Clarke To Talk Before Newcomers Club

Coral Gables Newcomers Club will hold its monthly luncheon and meeting at 12:30 p.m. July 17th at the Coral Gables Country Club. Miss Mary Helm Clarke will speak on the history and growth of Coral Gables. This will be followed by a talk by Mrs. F. M. Pearson, on the many clubs of Miami. Bridge and bingo will follow. The Newcomers Club was organized last April and has grown with leaps and bounds. Many interesting programs have been planned for the coming year. The Newcomers to the Gables have found in it an answer to a great need. A friendly welcome in a new life, the only requirement for membership being a Newcomer. Reservations for the luncheon can be made by phoning Mrs. Marjorie Hager - 48-1038 or Mrs. Lewis S. Drill - 4-5842, not later than Tuesday, the 15th.

Past Presidents to Meet

The next meeting of the past president's parley of the American Legion Auxiliaries in Dade County will be held at 12 noon Monday for a covered dish luncheon. Mrs. Grace Newton, president, will preside and reveal plans for the ex-service women's Christmas project.

To Attend Convention

Miss Rose Horn, president and delegate to the Florida Dental Assistants' Association and Miss Georgia Panker, delegate to the Dental Hygienists, will attend the American Dental Convention in Boston, Mass., next month. Later Miss Horn will go to Iowa for a visit with relatives and Miss Panker will vacation in New York City.

Candid camera catches MR. and MRS. WALTER DWIGHT REYNOLDS II, as they took off on their honeymoon Friday. The June 28 wedding of the couple took place at the First Christian Church, Miami, with the Rev. John Harvey Fritsch of the Country Club Christian Church officiating. On July 4 they left by plane for Davenport, Iowa., where they will live while Mr. Reynolds persues his studies at the Palmer School of Chiropractic. The marriage of the former Miss Helen McDonald, daughter of Mrs. Henry McDonald of 2714 Alhambra Circle. Mr. Reynolds attended Presbyterian College, Clinton, S. C., and Mercer College, Macon, Ga. Miss Elinor Weed's Betrothal To Lawrence Mann Demarest Announced Today by Parents

Of interest in Coral Gables, as well as New York and New Jersey is the engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Elinor Coolidge Weed and Lawrence Mann Demarest which is announced today by the bride-elect's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick H. Weed of 2714 Alhambra Circle. Mr. Demarest is the son of Mrs. Lawrence U. Demerest of Altamount, New York and South Orange, New Jersey, and the late Dr. Demarest. Both Miss Weed and her fiance are attending the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The marriage will take place at four o'clock, p. m. Monday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Coconut Grove, and will be followed by a reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Weed. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Lynchburg, Virginia, Mr. Demarest prepared for college at the Wooster School, Danbury, Conn., and was graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He served for three years during the war as a Lieutenant (jg) in the United States Naval Reserve. He is a member of Zeta Psi fraternity. Miss Weed has chosen as her maid-of-honor and only attendant at the July 14 wedding, Miss Lamar McKey of Miami, a former college classmate. Best man for Mr. Demarest will be Richard Adams also of Miami. The couple will return to Baltimore in September.

BEACH PARTY PLANNED BY EIGHT & 40

Members of the Eight & Forty, honor society of the American Legion Auxiliary, will enjoy a beach party beginning at 4 p.m., Friday, July 25, as part of their July program of meetings and entertainments. Mrs. E. J. Lammoroux is chairman for this party and members are asked to contact her for planning the covered dush supper. Phone 7-6498. Mrs. Jesse N. Koehler, president, appointed Mrs. Edwin J. Barker chairman and Mrs. Arellin Stewart co-chairman for the programs to be presented during the coming year. The glee club met Monday with Mrs. Julius Naiman, 2449 S. W. Fourth Street, with Mrs. Tom Q. Sharp as co-chairman. New members added to the glee club are: Mesdames Hazel Sears, W. E. Reinhard, Etta Green, B. E. Rogers, Ralph Peckham, David McMillan, Elise Ehrman, Marvin Merriffield, Nell Bush, Leon L. Bowman, Mezell Bryant and Wallace Perry.

On Personally Conducted Tour

Miss Dora Thomas, president of the Coral Gables Business and Professional Woman's Club, will leave today on a week end trip by plane for Guatemala. Miss Thomas will join a group of ten being personally conducted.

Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Robinson Jr., are moving this week to their new home at 820 Alberca street, which they have just purchased. Mr. Robinson is director of public works for the City of Coral Gables.

DELTA GAMMA PLANS PARTY

Delta Gamma will be hostess to Miami Panhellenic Association at a "coke" party Saturday, on the mezzanine of the Everglades Hotel. The board meeting is called for 10:30 A.M. with the general meeting to follow at eleven o'clock. An interesting midsummer program has been planned with Mrs. Mary Schuck, Woman's Page Editor of The Miami Herald as speaker. Her subject will be "Journalism for Everybody" and she will be introduced by Mrs. Herschel E. Smith, Dade County Girl Scout Commissioner. Mrs. Jesse E. Pipkin, president of the Miami Delta Gamma Alumnae Association has had charge of arranging the program.

AUXILIARY PLANS CHRISTMAS GIFTS

Coral Gables American Legion Auxiliary (unit 98) at their July meeting Wednesday began making articles for the Christmas Gift shops at the hospitals, also received material to make apron hit bags for the different veterans' hospitals. The next meeting of the unit will be August 13th.

Visits Mother

Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Carter and two children, Louise and J. C., Jr., of Orlando, were the guests of her mother, Mrs. R. M. Sheets, 2807 Columbus Boulevard, for the past week.

TWO CORAL GABLES WOMEN AMONG NEW MEMBERS JOINING

Two Coral Gables women are among the seven new members admitted into the American Association University Women, Greater Miami branch, at the July board meeting. They are Mrs. Jack E. Branch Jr., of 344 Avenue Mendoza and Mrs. William G. Friedemann of 3246 Riviera Drive. Mrs. Branch was the former Louise Brewer at Agnes Scott college and Mrs. Friedemann was the former Elizabeth Miehlke of the University of Chicago. The association has planned a number of interesting meetings for the summer months. July 28th, Mrs. R. M. McKey will be hostess at a covered-dish luncheon at 10:30 a. m. at her home, 2331 S. W. 6th street. The speaker for the program will be Mrs. Carl E. Dunaway who will use as her topic, "Florida Medical Service Plan." Miss Birdie McAllister will be hostess at a covered-dish luncheon at 10:30 a. m. August 25th at her home, 58 S. W. 26th road. Mrs. Herberta Leonardy will have charge of the Legislative program. An outdoor supper on June 6th at the home of Dr. and Mrs. E. J. Hall in Miami Springs to which husbands and dates were invited and a "gardening" session June 26th at the home of Mrs. Henry Kennale were June events.

Church Group Plans Supper Meet

Group 6 of the First Presbyterian Church Woman's Association, will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Bootes, 2845 S. W. 17th Avenue. Supper will be served.

Mrs. Delice Howard of 419 Avenue Villabella has had as her house guest Miss Virginia Britton of Washington, D. C. Miss Britner, a career girl and member of the state department has just returned from Europe, where she was attached to the American embassy.
