Schools Open Monday With Record Enrollment

PUBLIC AND PAROCHIAL INSTITUTIONS AWAIT PEAK PUPIL LOAD

New Cafeteria Is Completed At Elementary Capacity enrollment topping records set in previous years is anticipated by the public, parochial and private schools in Coral Gables when they open the doors for the new school year Monday morning. Classes at Ponce de Leon High School, Coral Gables Elementary School, and Merrick Demonstration School will begin at 8:30 Monday morning, while students at St. Theresa's Parochial School will meet in the Church of the Little Flower for 8:30 mass and report to their classrooms afterwards. Private Schools The Playhouse, only local private school to hold classes this week, will begin instructions at nine Monday morning. Classes at the Exmoor and Ken-Castle schools will not start until the first week in October.

High School Work to Start Early in '48

Plans Expected In Sixty Days, Henderson States Actual construction work on the new $1,200,000 Coral Gables High School was forecast this week for early in 1948 by School Board Member James A. Henderson. Plans are expected to be ready in less than 60 days while an additional 45 days have been set aside for the securing of contractors' bids, Henderson said. Tells Lions "This should enable us to get under way shortly after the first of the year," Henderson told members of the Lions Club of Coral Gables.

Re-registration Planned Before Gas Election; Old Books Will Be Scrapped

Youth Center Follies Opening Slated For September 19 at Gables Elementary The young folks of Coral Gables capture the theatrical spotlight this week as finishing touches are put on rehearsals for the second annual Youth Center Follies, scheduled for two performances on September 19 and 20 in the Elementary School Auditorium. Admission to the performances is free, but minimum donations of one dollar have been suggested for all attending. Proceeds will go to the Youth Center's operating fund.

2 PRECINCTS SEEN FOR BALLOTING

Franchise OK Is Approved By Commission Plans for calling for a complete new registration of Coral Gables voters prior to the special election on the gas franchise were announced today by City Clerk Edwin B. Poorman. Under the plan, present registration books, purged prior to the last municipal election, would be scrapped entirely and a new, loose leaf card system installed. The action will mean that every qualified voter in Coral Gables will be required to go to city hall and re-register in order to be eligible to vote on the proposed gas franchise and in subsequent city elections.
