MR. AND MRS. NELS STERLING PLEDGE VOWS IN CHURCH RITE
MR. AND MRS. JOHN NELSON STERLING —Vincent Crudele Photo Among Coral Gables' newest residents are Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson Sterling, whose marriage was an event of Friday at the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables. Following their honeymoon, by motor north, they will reside in their new apartment at 439 Sevilla. For her marriage Mrs. Sterling, the former Annie Loys Downer, daughter of Mrs. Mathew Holley of Shreveport, La., and the late Mr. Holley, chose a floor length, full sweep blue marquisette made with insets of matching blue lace over taffeta, and carried an arm bouquet of two shades of sweetheart roses tied with two-toned pink ribbon. Mrs. Mae Goodbar in a floor length gown of dusty pink marquisette acted as matron of honor. She carried a bouquet of gardenias. Carl Justice was best man for Mr. Sterling and the couple pledged their vows before Dr. Nevir Schaaf, pastor of the church. Following the nuptials, the couple received their guests in the patio entrance of the church, after which they left immediately on their honeymoon trip. Mrs. Sterling came to Miami four years ago from Shreveport. Mr. Sterling, the son of Mrs. Lillian M. Sterling of Crisfield, Md., and the late Mr. Sterling, came to Coral Gables about a year ago. He is manager of Kells Press.
Skagseths Honeymoon In North Vows Spoken In Church Rite
Mr. and Mrs. Charner Skagseth will honeymoon in Minnesota and will reside at 5932 S. W. 42nd terrace upon their return. For traveling by motor, the new Mrs. Skagseth wore white linen with red accessories, orchids. The bride, the former Miss Patricia Alden Crosby, daughter of Mrs. A. M. McDonald, 1110 Salzedo street and the late Alden E. Crosby, chose traditional white satin for her marriage to Mr. Skagseth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arne Skagseth, 1510 Granada Boulevard. Vows were spoken in a candlelight ceremony at 7 p. m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Nevin H. Schaaf, officiating. Miss Jacquita (Jackie) Jones was maid of honor. Diane Myers, a niece of the groom and Billy Kidd, a cousin of the groom were flower girl and ring bearer respectively. Arne Skagseth, Jr., was best man. Ushers were John Barclay, Jack Keele, Donald Doughty and Willoughby Cox. Miss Joan Daye was soloist and Warner Hardman presided at the organ. Mrs. Douglas Griffin, nee Janice Booher, now of Clearwater, kept the bride's book at the reception attended by 400 guests, following at the County Club of Coral Gables. A number of Pi Beta Phi sorority sisters of the bride assisted. They included the Misses Dorothy Williams, Franklin Smith, Barbara Mizer, Mary Catherine Moody, Panama city, and Camille Batten, Sanford. The new Mrs. Skagseth is a member of a pioneer Florida family. She was named for Priscilla Alden and is a direct descendant, 13th in line, of that famed lady through her father, the late Alden Bailey Crosby. The Crosby family came to Florida in a sailing vessel from Maine and established their home on the St. Johns River. The bride who attended Florida State University, was the third member of the Crosby family attending the state college. At "Tally" she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and a member of the Village Vamps. Also of a pioneer Coral Gables family Mr. Skagseth was graduated from Ponce de Leon High school and entered the United States Navy in which he served during the war. He is now associated with his father in the Skagseth Stationery Co., Inc.

Carol Gulliver to Enter Smith Bettie Bollinger, U. of Georgia
Getting ready for that first year at college is thrilling a number of Coral Gables girls, especially those who are going out-of-state to college. This year the new long hem line has interested a few, but we cannot truthfully say that the college-bound trunks will be filled with ankle length suits. Miss Carol Gulliver left Tuesday by motor accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gulliver for New York. An exciting two weeks in Gotham and surrounding New England states is planned by the Gullivers who will drop their daughter off at Northampton in time for registration at Smith College Sept. 22. Carol will pick out a fur coat in New York but packed in her trunk are a lot of new clothes bearing the labels of Coral Gables shops, and one date dress, a little black number with extenuated hip line and new long length, is there from Althea's. Summering with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. P. Brigham, who have taken a cottage at East Charlestown, Vermont, is Miss Jerre Prince Brigham. Jerre will enter Wellesley about the 20th. She writes her friends that she bought some exciting winter clothes in Montreal, while they were traveling there, but most of her college clothes also bear Gables dress shop labels. Leaving Monday for month's travel in the North were Mr. and Mrs. Adam G. Adams, 1213 Blue Road, and their daughter, Susan Toy Adams, who will enter Vanderbilt University, at Nashville, Tenn. Sue will take along a number of sweaters in pastels, so right with every college girl's wardrobe, some of which she industriously knitted herself. By Plane An exciting trip North is planned by Barbara Brown and Harriet Quillan. They are leaving by plane for Durham, N. C., and will register at Duke University on Sept. 11. Barbara, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Allen Brown, 3820 Alhambra Court, is interested, of course, in her new college wardrobe, but she is excited over the fact that she will see snow for the first time in her life. Barbara has one of Althea's evening frocks, a black faille strapless with a bouffant skirt and front bustle effect, also a lot of dresses from the Valencia Shop. Kathryn Hardeman and Helen Stephens will enter Brenau College, Gainesville, Ga., for their first year at college on the 16th. Kathryn, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Vines Hardeman, 2852 S. W. 38th avenue, has bought her entire wardrobe in Coral Gables. Among several of her things bought at Daniels are a honey colored silk raincoat and a aqua flanned robe, without which no college girl's outfit is complete. Kathryn plans to buy rain boots and a matching rain hat in Georgia. Seems they are a must at Brenau. Helen, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lem Stephens, 3800 Granada Boulevard, also bought most of her new clothes in Coral Gables shops and has several black numbers among them. Both Katherine and Helen modeled in Althea's Country Club show a cou- ple of weeks ago, and bought the dresses they modeled — Helen's, a stunning green plaid strapless eve- (Please turn to page nine)
