Gables Residents Invited To Attend Hospital Service
Chaplain James A. Boston today invited residents of Coral Gables to join convalescent veterans in the Worship Hour conducted each Sunday in the chapel at Pratt Veterans Administration Hospital. In extending the invitation, the clergyman explained that the weekly worship hour, held Sundays at 10 a. m., is dedicated to persons of all faiths. Each week a prominent civic leader is invited to talk to the congregation on subjects relating to the place of religion in every day life. Rep. R. B. Gautier, Jr., of the Florida State Legislature, will address this Sunday's meeting on the subject, "Religion and Government". A well-known attorney, Gautier himself is a veteran of service with the Naval Air Force during World War II. Members of Foinsettia and Bataan Posts, American Legion, will be welcomed as special guests.

Country Club Christian
"Concern" is the message of the 11 o'clock morning worship service at the Country Club Christian Church, 2000 N. Ponce de Leon Blvd. (worshipping in the Woman's Club building adjoining the Youth Center). Gene Goble is the pastor, the Rev. Harvey John Fritsch. "The justification for our existance as an individual or as a group can be found in our concern for others. What was it that brought the "Youth Center" into existence and motivates the men who direct its activities? Concern! Not imagined — but real concern for the welfare of our young people. Of what value is any institution, be it a church or a home, if its only concern is self? God, the Father, was concerned about our welfare to the degree that He sent His only begotten Son to die that we might have abundant life. What a sleazy people we would be indeed, if we were content to allow such concern to be so one-sided," says the Rev. Mr. Fritsch. The Bible school meets at 10 a. m. with classes for every age. Visual teaching is employed.

Christian Science
First Church of Christ, Scientist in Coral Gables is opposite City Hall Park. Morning service 11 a. m. Evening service, 8 p. m. Sunday school, 11 a. m. Wednesday evening, 8 o'clock. "Substance" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon which will be read in Churches of Christ, Scientist, throughout the world on Sunday, September 14. The Golden Text is: "The invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made; even his eternal power and Godhead" (Romans 1:20). Among the citations which comprise the Lesson-Sermon is the following from the Bible: "For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever" (I Peter 1:24, 25) (to the first period). The lesson-sermon also includes the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "How true it is that whatever is learned through material sense must be lost because such so-called knowledge is reversed by the spiritual facts of being in Science. That which material sense calls intangible, is found to be substance. What to material sense seems substance, becomes nothingness, as the sense-dream vanishes and reality appears" (312:1).
When right, you can afford to keep your temper. When wrong, you can't afford to lose it.—Frank E. Polk.

Gables Presbyterian
Dr. B. M. Larson announced that he would speak next Sunday at the 11 a. m. church service, conducted by the Gables Presbyterian church in the Merrick Demonstration school, 39 Zamora Avenue on "The Will of God." He will say in part: "We use the phrase the will of God too loosely. Where shall we begin our interpretation? If we begin with the facts as we find them in this world, where there is so much sin, suffering and tragedy we arrive at distorted views of God. "Beginning with facts and moving backward to God men quite readily lose their faith in God. There is the other process, namely being with God, and interpreting history and facts in the light of the nature of God. "This requires a revelation, which we have in the Bible. Here in this Book we have a revelation of God, who, according to the scriptures is supremely manifested in Jesus Christ. Beginning with God so revealed, we are able to find meaning in all the details of our every day life. "Looking at the facts of the daily round in the light of the Cross one is able to find his way in doing and living his life in accordance with the will of God. "God is love! On that I build my faith. God is just and righteous and as such is in favor of righteousness and justice in all of the relations of life. He is constructively on the side of rescue, healing and the transformation of life into the image of the likeness of God. "God's purpose concerning man is redemptive. He gave Himself in Christ that the childish of men might become the children of God.
