Eastern Air Lines Pilot Buys; Miamians Take Gables Homes Joining the colony of Eastern Airlines pilots and their families residing in Coral Gables are Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Gaunt who have bought the home at 721 Avenue Palermo. From Philadelphia, Captain and Mrs. Gaunt have one son, Dick 13. Another newcomer family on Palermo Avenue are Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Boggess who have bought the home at 727. From West Palm Beach, the Boggesses have a daughter, Dorothy Anne, 9, and a son, Donald, Jr., 19. Mr. Boggess is sales manager for the Home Milk Co. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Paul Greenaway are among newcomers at 3812 S. W. 60th court, more recently from Miami and formerly of Jackson, Miss. Mr. Greenaway is with the Florida Power and Light Co. Their children are Joan, 14; Jean, 5, and Tommy, 12. Mr. and Mrs. E. Lee Hughes have joined others in the retired class seeking homes in Coral Gables from Miami. The Hughes' have bought the home at 745 Avenue Minorca. * * * Mr. and Mrs. J. N. King, also former Miamians, are now residing in their own new duplex at 3500 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Mr. King is a pilot with Pan American Airways. The Kings have two daughters, Linda 3 and Carol 2. * * * Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Russel have bought the home at 3825 S. W. 60th Court and are among the newcomers from Fairview. N. J. Mr. Russel is foreman of the Galloway Transfer Co. Their family is grown.

Yardley Canbys On Wedding Trip

Mr. and Mrs. Yardley Penn Canby were honeymooning in Nassau today following a wedding ceremony solemnized Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables. The Rev. Nevin Schaaf officiated at the picturesque rites which joined the former Kathryn Louise Davis, daughter of Mrs. Petra Hansen Davis of 1206 Madrid St., and the son of Mrs. Anna C. Canby of 2351 S. W. 25th Terrace. Red and white formed the color scheme of the costumes of Mrs. Delomae A. Woods, who served as matron of honor for her sister, and bridesmaids Marilyn Barton and Betty Hanneman. Miss Davis was also attended by little Diane Louise Roberts, flower girl. Bruce W. Beyer of Birmingham, Ala., was best man for Mr. Canby while John Lipscomb and Herren M. MacDonald served as ushers. Chantilly lace that adorned the bride's white satin picture gown was matched by long gauntlets of Chantilly. Her double-tiered veil of illusion cascaded from a halo of imported orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of stephanotis and orchids. A wedding reception in the patio of the church followed the ceremony.

University Women Will Meet Monday

The American Association of University Women will observe United Nations Week with a special morning meeting to be held at 10:30 Monday at the home of Mrs. William E. Tschumy, 3232 Emaitha St. Mrs. J. Dunraven Young will introduce Dr. H. Franklin Williams, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Miami and speaker for the day. He will pose the question: "What would you recommend as a solution to the Palestine problem that would be fair and equitable to all parties concerned?"

'Big Top' Acts To Hightlight Circus Party

Country Club Sets Event for Sept. 23 Popcorn! Peanuts! Pink Lemonade! Clowns! O-o-o-o-o-h, y'must come over-to the Circus Party being planned by the Country Club of Coral Gables for Tuesday, September 23. All the trappings of the big top, from performing animals to tumbling acrobats, are being incorporated in the program which will be directed by Mrs Dolores Rohe. Mrs. Dalton Wright has arranged for the appearance of J. Guy Newman's performing pouches to start things off at 2 p. m. The trained dog act will be followed by a pet show under direction of Mrs. A. Leo Voimer. Assisting her will be Dr. Ernie Edwards and Mrs. Walter Ashby. Prize ribbons will be awarded to the outstanding pets by judges Robert Bakke, Mrs. Frank Holley, Mrs. James B. Moore and Mrs. H. G. Tuckerman. Five-thirty will see the stupendous Clown Parade staged by Robert Royce before "intermission" for dinner. The show will be resumed at 7 o'clock with "Kemal Pasha", famous performing horse from the Coral Gables Riding Academy, taking the spotlight. At 7:30, Dr. Donald Leigh and his group of magicians will prove the hand is quicker than the eye in a series of mystery acts. Next the master of ceremonies will call upon tumblers, acrobats and clowns from the Coral Gables Youth Center to take the center ring, with Jackie May announcing the turns. Mrs. Byron Sperow, assisted by Mrs. Richard Marshall and Mrs. Frank Howard will have charge of a "fish-pond" grab-bag attraction while Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ashby promise to have agile monkeys from the Monkey Jungle on hand to lend big tent atmosphere. The popcorn, pink lemonade and balloon "concession" will be directed by the A. E. Vollmers. All guests-as well as committee heads-were urged to appear in circus costume at the party.

Miss Esther Roll Wed in Ohio

Mr. and Mrs. George North Finkeldey were making the Solana Hotel their temporary quarters this week following their marriage Sept. 3rd at Cincinnati, Ohio. The bride was Miss Esther Roll, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Ochs of Cincinnati before her marriage to the Dallas, Tex., man in a ceremony performed in the Presbyterian parsonage in her native city. Mrs. Finkeldey, a member of the staff at Burdine's, resided at 643 Avenue Almeria prior to her marriage. Her husband is associated with Mill Products, Ponce de Leon Boulevard concern. The couple plans to make the Gables their permanent home.

Legion Auxiliary Issues Call For Volunteer Hospital Workers

A call for American Legion Auxiliary members to serve as volunteer aides at Pratt Veterans Administration Hospital was issued today by Mrs. A. L. Buzzell, director of Auxiliary activities at the hospital. Mrs. Buzzell urged women affiliated with the Coral Gables Legion Auxiliary to join fellow members of the group "who have already done such a splendid job in assisting the hospital staff to care for our ill and disabled veterans." She announced that the Veterans Administration, in conjunction with the Auxiliary will conduct a training course for workers at the hospital on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17 and 18. Volunteer hospital workers contribute one day a week to aid staff personnel in occupational therapy, medical rehabilitation service, recreation activities for convalescing veterans, library work and distribution of comfort articles in the wards. "The need for trained assistants is great-and we particularly urge Auxiliary members in Coral Gables and nearby communities to don the yellow uniform of the 'Sunshine Ladies' and lend a hand," Mrs. Buzzell said. She noted that eight members of the local unit who recently signed up as hospital volunteers have already earned service pins denoting 50 or more hours of volunteer service. The Gables women were identified as Mrs. Ralph Peckham, Mrs. Lynn Upchurch, Mrs. Esther Marvin, Mrs. Robert Wickard, Mrs. Elma Chapman, Mrs. Yvette Peterson, Mrs. Paul Savage and Mrs. Luthy Echtle. Those wishing to sign up for the two-day training course were urged to consult unit president, or Mrs. Buzzell at the hospital.

University Grads Set Wedding Date

Plans for the approaching marriage of two former University of Miami students, Miss Ruth Richardson and Norman Ashe, have been made known by the bride-elect's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter K. Richardson of Glendale, Mo. Mr. Ashe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Ashe of Pittsburgh, Pa. An Oct. 3 wedding at the home of the prospective bridegroom's uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. Bow-man F. Ashe, 2475 S. Bayshore drive, is planned. Miss Richardson has asked Miss Barbara Taber of St. Louis to be her maid of honor and Miss Doris Hart of 1390 S. W. 17th St., Miami, her bridesmaid. Foster E. Alter will be best man, Parents of both Miss Richardson and Mr. Ashe are planning to be in Miami for the occasion.

Returns From Vacation

After attending the National Convention of Dental Assistants in Boston in the capacity of delegate and State President from Florida, Miss Rose Horn turned tourist recently to visit New York, Washington, D. C. Later Miss Horr trekked westward to spend some time with her family at the cottage they had taken on Lake Okoboji, Iowa. She was accompanied back to Coral Gables by her mother, Mrs. P. B. Horn.
