Camp Cloudmont Features The Widest Selection of Activities For Youngsters

"The most progressive, well equipped camp for youngsters," is an expression of a happy parent who last summer sent his son to Camp Cloudmont. Located on the top of Lookout Mountain where the states of Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee join, Camp Cloudmont boasts itself as being completely equipped in every detail. Great care has been exercised in the selection of the camp site. Over 40 buildings of excellent construction, designed to meet the requirements of the camp, have been carefully grouped on sloping ground. Each building is lighted with electricity, and the boys live in well-screened constructed cabins. The Cloudmont gymnasium is one of the finest in any boys' camp in this country. Additional equipment of the camp consists of a camp museum, an archery range, rifle range, seven craft shops, gardens, athletic fields, badminton courts, tennis courts, baseball field and volleyball courts, the lake, canoes, Greek theater, photographic dark room, nature study retreat, 9 hole golfcourse, horses and even a 500 book library. SINCE 1927 Camp Cloudmont was established in 1927. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jones, owners and directors, have worked as a team in building the camp's fine reputation. In an interview with Jack Jones, he dedicated Cloudmont's success to his staff. He said, "The Staff at Cloudmont is thoroughly organized. Each member has a responsible part in the camp program, each being in charge of the various divisions of sport and other phases of camp life. The camp takes considerable pride in the fact that each boy takes an inspired part in all the activities of the camp program. This is accomplished by special, individual attention for each camper. The camp leaders, older men—once boys themselves—do a splendid job in securing the hearty cooperation of every boy." JUNIOR CAMP Cloudmont operates in three divisions, junior camp for toys ages 6-9, intermediate camp for boys 9-10, and senior camp 11-16. The junior camp was established recently. The directors felt a need for a more complete supervision of the younger boys. Each year these little fellows weld themselves into one of the happiest bands in camp, entering every activity with considerable vigor and enthusiasm. They learn to ride horses—to make things with their own hands, to paddle canoes, and swim finished strokes — and better still they learn to play with each other. VALLEY VIEW RANCH A short distance from Camp Cloudmont in Cloudland, Georgia, the Jones' have purchased another type of camp, planned and developed to meet the interests of boys as well as girls. "A horse for each camper is the unique feature here." The boy or girl is trained to care for his own personal horse. "The purpose of Valley View Ranch is to help each rancher become thoroughly acquainted with livestock and ranch operation," Mr. Jones said. DE SOTO FALLS present an amazing spectacle with water falling nearly 100 feet. VALLEY VIEW RANCH features 178 horses for girls and boys. Activities here include rodeos, trail riding and camping trips. IT IS OFTEN the influence of associates with whom a boy comes in contact that makes or mars his character. Realizing this, only men of high ideals, strength of character are chosen as counselors at Cloudmont.
