Joseph M. Elinoff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel L. Elinoff, 611 Catalonia Ave., and Mary Virginia Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Markley, 1350 Taragona Dr., were among 32 students cited in the annual honor assembly at the University of Miami. Elinoff, an 18-year-old history major received the May Bernice Jacobs award as the most outstanding male freshman. Miss Jones, a 24-year-old nursing student and June graduate, was cited by the YMCA for her outstanding work in the field of religion. When Lt. Graham D. Monroe Jr. landed his jet trainer safely at Laredo Air Force Base in Texas, it marked the 30,000th hour of error-free flying for his group. At the flight line to congratulate him was the training squardon's commander. Lieutenant Monroe received his wings in 1958. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Graham D. Monroe, 2912 Alhambra Cir., and recently spent the weekend with his parents. With him was a guest, Lt. John Procter of Laredo AFB. Barbara Kay Marks, who graduated magna cum laude in 1957 at the University of Miami, received the annual Mary B. Merritt award issued each year to an outstanding graduate by the Miami Panhellenic Association. Barbara, now enrolled in the UM Graduate School, taught for the past three years at the Riviera Junior High School. Ivar and Mary Axelson, of Crystal Court View Ct., formerly of Coral Gables, issued a 12 page printed letter of their wanderings abroad, (with full cover camera shots) to their Coral Gables friends. They named it "Tales of the Wandering Foot." They were away four months. We have a nice letter from Mrs. Joe V. Davidson of Sarto whose beautiful Royal Poinciana recently was written up on our front page. Mrs. Davidson says, "The article attracted much attention. A number came to photograph it and one woman brought her easel and oil paints and produced a remarkable likeness." There were two other sentences we feel compelled to pass on: "Mr. Davidson and I receive our Coral Gables Times each week. I can assure you it is most welcome and perused. We receive it by paper carrier, who is prompt and well mannered." Their carrier's name is Stuart Cohen, 221 Viscaya. Another Gables student has brought home honors. Carol Bellomy was Chosen President of the Year at the Junior Achievement banquet Tuesday night. She's president of the Deco Arts Co. and recently was written up in the Times. Junior Achievement enables teenagers to form and operate their own companies just as if they were adults. Roscoe Brunstetter, a former mayor of Our Town and who practices law in Miami, is sueing that city's Firemen's Relief and Pension Fund for $48,731. He says it's the balance of a fee owed him for increasing the Miami firemen's pension payments, a matter which took about eight years to reach fruition. Brunstetter has already received $31,668 and the $48,731 represents the balance owed him, he maintains in a suit filed in the Circuit Court. Incidentally, Gables firemen had a similar fund set up under Brunstetter's direction but those legal service debts were tidied up without incident.
