LOIS BONAGURA, a sophomore at Douglass College, New Brunswick, N.J., will serve as government association representative, next year (her junior) at the woman's college. Lois is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Bonagura, 324 Ridgewood Rd. * * * "Alley," the papermaiche alligator who probably traveled farther than any living wild alligator, is back at Seminole Elementary School where he was born, or, as we should say, had his beginning. Last show place was the Coral Gables Youth Center, where he amused old and young. Constructed in the third grade as part of art instruction of Miss Dorothea Dubler's classroom, Alley also visited the Deauville Hotel during the National Art Convention. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Ray C. Griffith of 1361 Lugo Ave., Gables by-the-Sea are leaving today for a visit to their native state of Texas. En route, they will visit Mr. and Mrs. Dumas Milner in Jackson, Miss. * * * J. R. Cox, 1426 Cantoria Ave., a fourth classman at The Citadel, Charleston, S.C., was awarded the Chicago Tribune ROTC Award presented to the outstanding cadet in each class. * * * A Gables man, Maj. Harrison M. Faith, of 1130 Placetas Ave., was team captain of the Homestead AFB 8511th Navigator Training Squadron which won third place in this year's reserve navigation competition in Texas. Major Faith's unit was the defending champion. Despite turbulent weather and thunderstorms during the week-long event, the best navigational scores in the five-year history of the meet were registered. * * * Five Southwest Dade couples were in Washington, D.C., over the weekend for that posh $100-a-plate birthday dinner in honor of President Kennedy, given at the National Armory. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hartnett, Mr. and Mrs. Don H. Wessell, Mr. and Mrs. Hoke T. Maroon, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Gautier. * * * Mrs. Charles H. Parsons, 1137 Andora Ave., is the new president of the Miami Wellesley College Club and Miss Millicent Mattocks, 511 Cadiam Ave., the new treasurer. New Club project is to encourage scholarship in the high schools, with an annual book award to an outstanding sophomore girl. * * * U.S. Army Cpl. Herschel Daniel Schultz and Mrs. Schultz are the parents of a girl, Deborah Marilyn, born May 16, in the Tripler General Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii. The baby weighed 6 lbs., 3 1/2 ounces at birth. Her moth-er, the former Theodora De Peugh, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore R. De Peugh, of 340 Catalonia Ave., Coral Gables. The baby's dad hails from Athens, Ga., son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel M. Schultz. * * * The Soroptimist Club of Coral Gables is $1,000 richer according to the will of their late member Louise Lester Schneider, who said "to spend however you desire," in that particular gift. * * * Fred W. Bradford, first French horn player of the UM Symphony Orchestra, and his wife sailed this week for Germany where Bradford has been invited to perform in the same post with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra during the festival at Bragenz. He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in 1955, to study in Vienna at its Academy of Music. * * * Four Gables gals have completed a YWCA golf class at the Biltmore course. They are Mrs. Melvin Schwartz, 1415 Sorolla Ave.; Mrs. Myra Serkin, 903 Escobar Ave.; Mrs. Aaron Weinstein, 4707 Orduna Dr.; and Mrs. Sylvia Belkin, 3600 Anderson Rd. * * * "The Abominable Snowman" is home. We're talking about gallavantin' George R. McKiever of 2601 Alhambra Cir., whose duties as president of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Agents have required extensive travel by him. He's just returned to our balmy clime from snowstorms and hailstorms in Montana, Colorado and Arizona. * * * Mrs. M. Lewis Hall, 751 N. Greenway Dr., took tea at the Governor's Mansion up at Tallahassee the other day. She was in the capital in connection with an appearance before the Senate Appropriations Committee where she spoke in behalf of the library bill. She represented the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs of which she's president. * * * We thought we were being served with a legal document last week when a fat, important-looking envelope arrived bearing the imprint of Green & Hastings, attorneys at law. It turned out to be a letter from Wm. Clinton Green about whom The Times recently carried a story and picture concerning his election to the American College of Trial Lawyers. Br'er Green was upset and we don't blame him. The publicity release put out in behalf of the College erroneously stated that he was the first South Floridian to be elected to membership. Tain't so, he says, and it's embarrassing what with all those other members already in from this area. In the Gables alone are Clyde Atkins, 2040 Country Club Prado; A. Lee Bradford, 1260 Mendavia; Reid DeJarnette, 3840 Alhambra Ct.; Dave Dyer, 4920 Sunset; Walter Humkey, 1539 Catalonia and William G. Ward, 2604 De Soto Blvd. We printed the item in good faith as transmitted to us by the official publicist. And while he isn't the first, we're glad to find out that Attorney Green is joining such select company. * * * Patricia E. Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel S. Moore of 299 Alhambra Cir., is a member of the Finance Committee, heading a fundraising group at Middlebury College, Middlebury, Va., earmarked for forum projects at the college. * * * Fifteen-year-old Harvey Jacobson is out of the hospital now, after four weeks there, with painful back injuries incurred in a school ball game. He's the son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Jacobson, 1243 Catalonia Ave. * * * Sandy Kidd, daughter of Mrs. Marie Venezia, switchboard operator at City Hall, is leaving June 16 to spend the summer in Bermuda with her father who is in the electrical field as manager for Car-Line Construction.
