PEOPLE Places & Things

Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Fitzgerald left Sunday for several months in New England. One of their first stops will be in the Queens section of New York where they will see their son, Richard L. Fitzgerald, and his family. * * * Dr. Robert L. Cherry, the Gables dentist who's done an outstanding job in several community enterprises, spoke to the Coconout Grove Rotary Club last week about the work he and other dentists and physicians recently did in Colombia. C. L. (Cap) Libby, editor of that club's bulletin, said he had one word for what Doc Cherry had to say: "Scarethehelloutayuh." Everybody should hear his report, says Libby, who added the opinion that if we don't look to feeding and clothing our own citizens who're without we might as well look to these people as the seedbed of communism within our own land. * * * Frank J. Kelly is the new first vice president of the Dade County Bar Association. Kelly, of 1228 Alhambra Circle, is a member of the law firm of Kelly Paige Black in the DuPont Building. Election to the post of first vice president is tantamount to election to the presidency a year hence. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elwell are home for the summer visiting their parents Mr. and Mrs. Ernest P. Jones, 738 Santander, and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Elwell, 2415 SW 21st Ter. Walter just received his masters degree in theology, magna cum laude, from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill. He plans to continue his studies toward his Ph.D next year in Tubingen, Germany. * * * Two Gableites graduated from Swarthmore College June 12. Dorothy Claire Faust, daughter of Mrs. John B. Faust, 1212 Cortez St., was a psychology major. Ralph C. Einford Jr. graduated with an award of distinction in the course of mechanical engineering. He was elected to the honorary society of Sigma Tau. * * * Clara Johnson, Gables insurance woman and founder of the local chapter of the National Secretaries Association, was married last week to Phil Becker, executive secretary of the Greater Miami Insurance Board. They will live at 818 Pizarro St. * * * Cleve Allen, 3710 Alhambra Circle, was elected chairman of the board of directors of the American Red Cross, Dade County Chapter, to serve the coming fiscal year. He has been active in civic affairs in Coral Gables and Dade County for many years.

KINGSLEY DUNWODY Carolyn Dale Dunwody was graduated from Stephens College, Columbia, Mo., with an associate arts degree at the college's 128th commencement. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Dunwody, 1049 Malaga Ave. * * * Robert E. Accompanying her will be Mrs. Arie Fulton also of Coral Gables, member of the same club and Past Governor of the 27th district of Quota International. They will serve as delegates. Also traveling with the two Coral Gables women will be Mrs. Reba Bradford, governor of the 27th Dist., of the Miami Quota club, and its president, Marion Dykes. * * * Manuel Guerra of 1406 Coral Way, has been named head of the Latin-American division of Madden and Playford Aircraft. Tuesday they attended the wedding of Dr. Holmes' brother, Earl, and on the same date helped celebrate the 63rd wedding anniversary of Dr. Holmes' parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Holmes. * * * It's a broad jump from the Mellon Debutante Party in Washington to the slit-lipped Ellie May in "Tobacco Road," but, Honey Cudahy, debutante daughter of Robert E. Cudahy, accomplished just that. Sunday morning she was in church in Washington with Jackie Kennedy and Sunday night she was learning to roll all over the stage at Studio M in rehearsal. The Cudahys are moving from their Bay Point home to Stewart Avenue in Coconut Grove this week. * * * Gableite Thomas M. Alger graduated from California's Stanford University June 18, with the degree of master of business administration. * * * When Irv Rubin, of the Pub, and his bride Barbara took their belated honeymoon in Europe recently, they had a bonus thrill. In Paris, while visiting Saint-Chapelle, they came out of the old church into the sunlight and found themselves within hand-shaking distance of President John Kennedy. The Rubins reported it was the greatest thrill of the trip, especially to see the French people's enthusiasm for our president...

STUCK??

Need something done and can find neither the time nor someone to do it? A reliable college student is eager to be a tutor in most high school subjects, a receptionist in a doctor's office (own uniforms), shopper for those who are housebound or want something unique, a traveling companion.
