PEOPLE Places & Things
Marty Weinkle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Weinkle, 4300 Toledo St., a student at Ransom School for Boys, Coconut Grove, came home with some many firsts from summer camp, Camp Zakelo, Harrison, Me. He was the stand-out swimmer, sailor, Red Cross sail test and was highest in camp in Red Cross junior life saving test, among others. Bernard (Bunny) and Dorothy Israel, 12200 Vista Lane, South Miami, are awaiting Oct. 8 when they sail aboard the American Export Line's cruise ship, the Atlantic, on a month's trip. Highlight will be Oct. 22 and 23 when they disembark at Haifa for visits to Israel. David Wilson Rogers and his wife, the former Gail Straub, are in Stutigart, West Germany, where he is stationed with Army intelligence. David and Gail were brought together by music, according to Mrs. R. C. Rogers, of 1137 Placeta's Ave., David's mother. The young couple report enjoying the "Singing Hurricanes" - the University of Miami Choral group now touring West Germany at the invitation of that government - when they appeared recently in Stuttgart, a city of nearly 700,000 population. The Peter E. Callahan home at 910 Calbira Ave. has been busy lately. Mrs. Ellen Callahan was getting ready to return to her teaching duties at Coral Gables High School. They have a houseguest, Mrs. W. W. Patrick of Morehead City, N.C., and there was packing to be done to get the boys off to college at the folks' alma mater, the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Deppe will be a junior and his younger brother David a freshman.
Four Tie In Golf
Perhaps the threat of a hurricane kept the feminine golfers at home, since only 32 came out for the Friday rounds at the Coral Gables Country Club's Women's Golf Association. Scotch forsome was the game - and tied for first place were Mrs. Harry Jasper and Mrs. Don Stevenson; Mrs. Fred Hartnett and Mrs. Ed Lawson, with a score of 35. Shooting a 35 1/2 for second place were Mrs. R. E. Tapperson and Mrs. J. B. McMurray.
