Knighted by Pope

ONLY ONE MAN in Florida and 500 in the world have ever received from Pope John in the Vatican the Knight of St. Gregory. That man (center), is Gableite Dick Roberts, a Florida Power and Light executive, who was honored last week by fellow members of Knights of Columbus. Left is Father Riley of the Church of the Little Flower, and James Dunn, Grand Knight. (Times photo).

City Says Yes

City Gas Company passed another hurdle Tuesday on its route to laying natural gas pipeline in Coral Gables when the City Commission approved 4-1 second reading of the franchise agreement. Commissioner C. L. Dressel Jr. again voted against the proposal, which must pass the further test of a referendum. No date has been set for a vote.

Kings Bay Opening Jammed

Approximately 3,500 attended the opening of the remodeled Bay Yacht and Country Club Tuesday night. Cocktails were served from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Hal Edwards, social director, said he was delighted with the attendance. In addition to his eight-piece orchestra, three others provided musical entertainment for the guests. The entire club was completely renovated at a cost of $2 million. Charlie Spivak has been engaged to play for the 1,000-member club during the Christmas holidays, Dec. 18-31.

Sunday Closing

Jackson-Byron's on Miracle Mile, the retailer which led the Sunday opening during last Christmas season, does not plan to be open this year, a spokesman said this week. That was the same word from Jefferson Stores, which also sold on Sunday last Yuletide.
