Postcard Poll Shows Gableites OK Cruises
A postcard poll to determine the feelings of Coral Gables waterway property owners revealed that approximately twice as many persons had no objection to establishment of cruise boat trips as those who objected. But the City Commission without taking a vote, indicated a denial of the request by Gray Sightseeing Lines. City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. reported that of 150 cards sent out, 56 were returned. Of those, 17 objected and 39 stipulated no objections. The objectors, who included some prominent names, however, sent in a petition in addition. They cited snooping, increased canal traffic, the nuisance and possible casing for a future burglary for their opposition.
Smoke Gets In Our Eyes
Smoke is getting into the eyes of Coral Gables residents living near the recently completed incinerator in Miami off South Dixie Hwy. and Douglas Rd. The City Commission heard the complaints recently and instructed City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. to contact Miami authorities to try to get the situation remedied. Miami had predicted a smokeless, dustless, odorless operation when the new incinerator was placed into operation several months ago, replacing the odiferous plant which annoyed residents in that area for years.
