Shelton-Slovak Wedding Held Saturday
On a honeymoon trip to Jamaica are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Slovak, following their marriage Saturday, at St. Brendan's Roman Catholic Church. The bride, the former Miss Virginia Shelton, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earlie Shelton, of 2021 S.W. 83rd Ave. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Slovak, of Korona. The Rev. Fr. Martin officiated at the 10 a.m. double ring ceremony, and the reception followed at the Pan Am Recreation Club. For her wedding, the bride wore a floor length gown of white silk organza over taffeta with Chantilly lace forming the neck line and long sleeves. Her veil of illusion fell from a pearl crown and she carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and stephanotis. The bride's sister, Donna Shelton, was maid of honor, and bridesmaids were: Diane Shelton, Alvara Pecca, and Elaine Falk, of New London, Conn. Patty Wolfe, was flower girl. They wore gowns made alike of sea foam green silk organza, with matching brimmed hats. The honor maid carried yellow roses, and the maids, yellow daisies. Charles Clague, of Long Island, N.Y. was best man. Ushers were Jack Evers, Eugene Clements, and Ernie Galinas. Pink nylon and lace was the gown chosen by the bride's mother, and the mother of the groom wore blue with matching jacket. Both matrons wore sweetheart rose corsages. The bride is a graduate of Coral Gables High School. The groom is a graduate of St. Paul's High School, Daytona Beach.
Colombia-Bound
Mrs. Dorothy Hosken, 7900 SW 53rd Pl., left Sunday for Cartagena, Colombia, where she will study for one month. Mrs. Hosken, a member of the Coral Gables People to People Program and a student-employe of the University of Miami, will study Spanish as it is spoken among the uneducated classes in Cartagena.

Permits Issued
South Miami building trails last year's totals by nearly $700,000 with addition of May's $163,217 in permits. The five-month figure stands at $986,311 compared to $1,605,997 for the same period in 1960. Largest single permit issued in the month of May went to Robert Couture for a $95,000 24-unit apartment house at 6310 SW 79th St. Couture was also given a permit for a $18,000 residence at 6331 SW 80th St., which was the second largest permit. Ben Essen Is Chosen Temple Judea President
Ben Essen, a 16-year resident of Coral Gables, has been elected president of Temple Judea. Essen, who replaces Tilden Corenblum, said there will be no change in temple policy. "The temple will remain a liberal reform temple," Essen said. An announcement will be made later on appointment of a new rabbi. Rabbi Morris Skop is leaving his post this month. Elected with Essen were Victor Reider, first vice president; William (Buddy) Weissel; second vice president; Dr. George Balber, recording secretary. Sidney Richman, treasurer; Irving Philipson, corresponding secretary; and Meyer Baskin, finance secretary. Essen, from Springfield, Mass., is a president of the Miami Jewish Community Center, past president of the Hebrew Home for the Aged, past district deputy grand master of the 18th Masonic District.
