South Rises Again in This Trailer Van

You Civil War buffs will get a chance to add to your knowledge of that conflict during the Junior Orange Bowl festivities. As unrelated as the two events may be, the U.S. Army never misses an opportunity to display its exhibits wherever a large crowd is sure to gather. The trailer van, filled with Civil War Centennial materials gathered by the Army, will be a Coral Gables City Hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday.) Admission will be free, according to Sgt. Ted Fetig, a Miami Shores resident who was sent down on special assignment from Washington to help present the exhibit. Assisting the Army on their local visit is Adam G. Adams, of 1200 Alegriano Ave., a real estate broker who heads the state's Civil War Centennial Commission. Each month, 3,000 letters depicting Florida history during that month 100 years ago, are mailed from Coral Gables by the commission. These go to schools, newspapers, and other interested groups. Tomorrow and Friday's exhibit shows not only how Civil War innovations contributed to military advances, but the everyday life of Union and Confederate soldiers, the contrast in medical care. Lifesize photographs of Generals U.S. Grant and Robert E. Lee are also featured. A movie depicting the war's big guns will be shown also.

NOTICE

UM Will Present Shakespeare

The University of Miami Drama Department has announced its second annual Southern Shakespeare Repertory Theatre will open this summer on July 10 with a performance of "Twelfth Night." Following this performance, in nightly rotation will be "Hamlet," "The Tempest," "Julius Caesar" given six nights a week until Aug. 5. The company is tentatively scheduled to go on tour to the Orange Blossom Playhouse in Orlando, Florida, to give performances of all four plays. Dr. Delmar E. Solem, chairman of the Drama Department and supervisor of last summer's Repertory Theater, will be executive director of the festival and will direct "Twelfth Night" and "Julius Caesar." Returning director Mr. Hank Diers will direct "Hamlet," and John McElhaney, who joined the Drama Department staff this fall, will direct "The Tempest." Also returning to the staff of the Repertory Theatre will be Miss Roberta Baker, costume director, and Andrew Greenhut, designer and technical director. The Drama Department will offer with the festival a course for graduate students and high school drama teachers in advanced drama techniques. Also in conjunction with the festival, if plans materialize, special courses in all aspects of theater arts will be offered to a select group of juniors in high school. "This is still in the planning stage," explained Dr. Solem, "but we hope our program will resemble the Cherub's program at Northwestern University. These students will be able to utilize the training we give them in their last year of high school." Applications are now being accepted for the festival from experienced actors, student actors, musicians, dancers, and assistants in costume, technical work, box office and promotion. A limited number of scholarships are available. For information and application blanks, write to Dr. Delmar E. Solmen, Drama Department, University of Miami, Coral Gables 46.
